POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Tapping in to share some highlights from week 1 of the Maktub Mini Makers Market, a 4 week program for 130 Sudanese Orphans in Cairo: @maktub.eg brought together a team of medical professionals including dentists, doctors, psychotherapists, teachers, business owners, artists, filmmakers, and so many beautiful, skilled and volunteers to put together a range of workshops and stations to provide essential care, aid, education and a warm meal to these children. The program serves children aged 3-17, and provides not only essential care, but a space for these children to be children again and to have fun.

We handed over 500$ USD of your donations to @soumae to help maintain/run this program and to help bring to life our vision of trauma informed care for these children. We will hopefully be working on a few soundbath's at @maktub.eg to help these children access and enjoy a mode of psychotherapeutic healing that would be beneficial for both their minds and bodies.

Next week, I will be introducing some emotional regulation tools for the kids to begin helping them identify emotions in themselves and others, we will also be teaching them more about what emotions are, what they mean, and what we are supposed to do with our emotions to respond to/move through them. Once again, our primary goal is to create and instill a sense of safety in these children.

This week, I was able to assist @fatmahegazy in some emotional regulation exercises she prepared for our class. She prepared a variety of activities to help soften any resistance the children might be having and to get them comfortable, we started with a fun game where we all introduced ourselves by acting our our names in a fun/silly way, and then the rest of the group had to echo the action and name back to the person introducing themselves. We then got really creative and channeled some animals, making sounds, movements with our bodies, and embodying the ferocity of some of these animals. (Lots of dogs, lions, some fun ones were a chicken and snake 🤣). Tata then lead the kids through a balloon breathing exercise after all that movement and energy.

A really amazing day, excited for next week!

🇵🇸🇵🇸
When I look back at 2024, I can see that this is not nothing. History will show that comrades stood every single week against genocide.
Protests.
Film screenings.
Banner drops.
Boycotts.
Culture nights.
Art galleries.
Vigils.
Liberation zones.
Bike rallies.
Fundraisers. Hell we even tracked down the prime minister!
None of it is enough, and all of it matters.

CTV can’t you see? Censorship’s your legacy.
Wake up, grow a spine, tell the truth on Palestine‼️

“Every anti-genocidal act matters.” -@thebreathactivist

The more research I did into Bell Media/CTV the more disgusted I became. I don’t know how they sleep at night. Western “journalism” is dead.

5.8: Voices of Resistance: Sonia Ahmad Talks Mental Health, Colonialism, and Free Palestine

In this episode of Radical Narrative, we sit down with Sonia Ahmad, a practicing Pakistani psychotherapist, passionate mental health advocate, and activist. Sonia views therapy as a form of art, emphasizing the importance of real human connection in the healing process. She creates a safe, peaceful space for clients to unpack difficult experiences, explore emotional patterns, and address hidden challenges, particularly those from cultural, religious, and familial dynamics. As a therapist driven by her dedication to the South Asian community, Sonia works to empower individuals from shame-based cultures, helping them address mental health without judgment.

Recorded in July, this conversation delves into Sonia’s journey of navigating cultural identity and colonialism, the challenges of decolonizing mental health practices, and her powerful advocacy for Palestine. Sonia and the host discuss the shared struggles of marginalized communities and the importance of solidarity in resisting settler colonialism. Packed with deep insights into healing, activism, and social justice, this episode offers listeners a meaningful exploration of how personal growth and political consciousness are interconnected.

Navigating the Black Sea in Therapy.

This metaphor was shaped in two ways:

First, the experience of grief is like navigating the Black Sea in a small rowboat.

Second, as we facilitate healing spaces are we asking ourselves if we have the tools for navigating the Black Sea that a person is lost in?

Starbucks, you may be surprised to hear, is not on the official BDS list. But after the global coffee company sued a labor union of Starbucks workers over its pro-Palestine social media comments in October, boycotting the chain has become emblematic of the new tsunami of support for the Palestinian people.

The company’s clash with its unionized pro-Palestinian workers has become a potent symbol of the fight for justice. This is likely due, in part, to Starbucks’ ubiquity. But it is also worth recognizing that many Muslim and Arab communities — who sit at the core of the pro-Palestine movement, even as its demographics expand rapidly — have a historic connection to and love of coffee. That makes this boycott an especially meaningful act of resistance.

The love for coffee has united not only the Muslim world, but those seeking justice across the globe. By voting with their wallets to stand in solidarity with Palestine, activists reaffirm the importance of peaceful protest and economic boycotts as a vehicle for social and political change.

The Starbucks boycott movement emphasizes the profound potency of collective action — and the ability of a shared cause to transcend differences and unite hearts, much as the love for coffee once did within the historic coffee houses. The aroma of coffee has faded from the streets of Gaza, replaced by the smell of heavy fumes and the stench of death. But unity endures in the hearts and minds of those who champion justice.
