Bandleader, drummer, educator, radio host and Latin jazz powerhouse @thebobbysanabria brings the revolutionary music of Arsenio Rodríguez into the spotlight with ARSENIO AND BEYOND Live at the BRONX MUSIC HALL

Arsenio Rodríguez, the legendary Cuban tres player and composer, transformed Afro-Cuban music by expanding the son conjunto with additional percussion, piano, and horns, helping lay the groundwork for modern salsa. His influence continues to resonate across generations.

As Sanabria tell us: “The true Father of Mambo and Son Montuno — without Arsenio Rodriguez there is no Salsa, Afro-Cuban jazz, and many would even argue, rock and funk. Although his music is timeless, I’ve always envisioned it being interpreted in a big band setting with modern, progressive jazz oriented arrangements. That vision has now finally become a reality which was done in front of a live audience with my incredible Multiverse Big Band in the mighty South Bronx where Arsenio once lived, in the new Bronx Music Hall where I am the co-Artistic Director with Elena Martinez right near where I grew up makes it even more special. ¡Qué viva Arsenio!”

With Arsenio and Beyond, Sanabria celebrates that legacy while bringing his own rhythmic fire, arranging brilliance and deep understanding of Afro-Cuban jazz to the music. This is more than a tribute — it’s a vibrant connection between the roots of Latin music and the sounds still evolving today.

Bobby Sanabria Brings Arsenio Rodríguez’s Legacy to Life on “Arsenio and Beyond”

Bobby Sanabria and the Multiverse Big Band turn history into a living, breathing celebration on Arsenio and Beyond, a powerful live recording dedicated to Cuban music visionary Arsenio Rodríguez. Recorded at the Bronx Music Hall, the album reconnects Arsenio’s revolutionary son montuno language with the modern sound of a contemporary Latin jazz orchestra.

Featuring bold arrangements, commanding vocal performances, searing trumpet and saxophone solos, Cuban tres, electric violin, flute, percussion, and extended descarga, the album moves from son and rumba to mambo, charanga, timba, bolero, and Afro-Cuban ceremonial rhythms. Sanabria’s musicians do not simply revisit this foundational repertoire—they expand it, revealing the continuing influence of Arsenio’s music on salsa, Afro-Cuban jazz, and New York’s cultural history.
