Homecoming Mums are a Texas tradition! 🌟 If you aren’t from the Lone Star State, these elaborate creations might leave you scratching your head. 🤔 Here’s how they originated! ⤵️ The tradition dates back to the early 20th century with the earliest homecoming football games and parades. The chrysanthemum blooms in the fall, making it the perfect flower for homecoming corsages. “Mum” corsages were given as gifts by young men to their homecoming dates. 🌸💃 A Texas florist started adding long ribbons in school colors to the corsages and the Texas Homecoming Mum was born. Over the years, mums grew (and grew) in size and complexity, with today’s High Schoolers decking out their mums with everything from their school activities to framed photographs❗ Many make their own mums or you can buy them locally. The whole thought of making them makes my palms sweat 😅 so I highly recommend some amazing local talent: ATX MUMS ➡️Find them on Facebook @ ATX MUMS AND Queen B Mums + Garters ➡️ @mumsbyqueenb . . . . . . #homecomingmums #texashomecomingmums #texashistory #laketravishighschool #laketravishomecoming #laketravis #westaustinliving #westaustinlife #ellespikesrealestate #ellespikessellsaustin #ellespikesrealtor #laketraviscavaliers
