Transgender Day of Remembrance is a somber day of mourning for our trans, non binary and gender diverse community. Intersections, MUN SAGA and Memorial’s Sexual Harassment Office are working to put together care packages, and need your help to do so. If you’re a maker, crafter, baker, or just want to show love and support to trans people in the Memorial community, please reach out to us. You can send us a DM or email intersections@munsu.ca. If you’re not able to offer something for the packages but you would like to support this work, you can make a donation by sending us an e-transfer to intersections@munsu.ca. Please make a note that this is for the TDOR Care Packages so we know! Thank you so much for sharing a bit of love and care with community members who might need it. Trans folks, keep an eye out for the request form

As part of my current project @monstersnghosts, I’ll be giving a workshop at @memorialuniversity in October. Come and join in if you are around! The workshop is an event by the "Rabble Rousers" initiative at @mun_gndr. Climate collapse and ecological grief can leave us feeling overwhelmed. How can critical creative practice and artistic research help us respond regeneratively? This workshop draws on posthumanist concepts – such as multispecies entanglement, intra-agency, and embodiment – and invites participants to counter eco-anxiety by exploring research-creation modes for re-imagination and empowerment. - Open to all – no prior knowledge needed - Presentation of visual artworks as sparks for discussion - Focus on reflection & ideation across mediums Friday • October 10th • 1:30–4 pm • SN 4087 • MUN St. John's Campus More at: rangsch.de/MNG_workshop.html #workshop #interdisciplinary #researchcreation #criticalart #environmentalart #sociallyengagedart #artsoflivingonadamagedplanet #meetingtheuniversehalfway #agentialrealism #insurgentvulnerability #protestandpleasure #ronarangsch #mosntersnghosts Workshop poster: Mosnters & Ghosts - Exploring Creative Strategies for regenerative T=Re-imagination in the Anthropocene, October, 10, 1;30 to 4 pm, SN 4087, Memorial University, St. john's Campus

🎬 On Wednesday, March 5, please don't forget to join MUN's Department of Folklore, along with the Department of Gender Studies, and MMaP for the screening and panel discussion of Scott Turner Schofield's groundbreaking film, "Becoming a Man in 127 EASY Steps." @turnerschofield is an acclaimed actor and creative. He was named a “Trans Influencer of Hollywood” by OUT Magazine after making history twice: as the first out transgender man to earn an Emmy nomination for acting, and the first out trans actor in Daytime television. You may have seen him perform in the internationally praised features OFF RAMP and The Conductor, and in roles on NBC’s The Blacklist and HBO’s The Idol. Becoming a Man in 127 EASY Steps premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and won the audience award for Best Feature at Out On Film. The collection of his scripts, Two Truths and a Lie (HomoFactus Press) was a finalist for two Lambda Literary Awards. He is the recipient of a National Performance Network Creation Fund and a Princess Grace Fellowship for acting. Scott is deeply rooted in community activism and advocacy. His 2013 TEDx Talk, “Ending Gender,” became a viral resource for expansive acceptance among youth, families, and allies. He has worked alongside local activists extensively in corporate and nonprofit spaces, changing nondiscrimination policies across university systems and coaching executives at some of the biggest corporations in the world on trans inclusivity, with results like trans-inclusive health insurance for millions of workers. Please join us for an evening of powerful storytelling, as well as a panel discussion featuring featuring Scott Turner Schofield, artist writer and educator Daze Jefferies, multidisciplinary artist Elijah Martel, and Dr. Guillermo de los Reyes Heredia of the University of Houston. . . #transstories #transtoriesmatter #storytelling #queerfolklore #lgbtqfilm #becomingamanin127easysteps #memorialuniversity #filmscreening #translivesmatter #genderstudies #folklore #film #gender #filmscreening

Sharing on the behalf of the Department of Folklore, the Department of Gender Studies, and MMaP: Trans stories matter! Join the Department of Folklore Studies, @mun_gndr , @memorialuniversity, and @MMaP in screening Scott Turner Schofield's groundbreaking film, @becomingamanin127easysteps on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at the The MMaP Gallery in the Arts and Culture Centre at Memorial University from 7-9PM. This event is free and open to the public. Becoming a Man in 127 EASY Steps blends bold cinematic imagery, dynamic live storytelling, animation and nearly 20 years of archival footage, redefining the narrative of transition often seen in mainstream media. Twice-censored, this one-hour special arrives at a moment of cultural reckoning, when trans lives are under attack in both legislation and public discourse. Transcending divisive headlines, Schofield connects his specific transgender experiences to universal human truths—of body-centered anxieties, the need for acceptance, the joys of finding love, and more. “This is more than just a film screening,” said Dr. Cory Thorne Gutiérrez, Department of Folklore, “It’s an opportunity to bring our disciplines and community together to understand this period of time in trans culture. This film shows us that storytelling work is in queer theory – it cracks open our concern with just how much scholarship is somewhat blind to gender and sexuality. This event will inspire you to think about the stories that make up who you are, how you approach your research and work, and to sink into our shared humanity.” 👉 Doors will open at 6:30 PM for some light refreshments, followed by a 7:00 PM screening of this powerful one-hour film. At 8:00 PM, there will be a post-show panel discussion featuring Scott Turner Schofield, @oceanleaving, Elijah Martel, and Dr. Guillermo de los Reyes Heredia. . . #transstories #transtoriesmatter #storytelling #queerfolklore #lgbtqfilm #becomingamanin127easysteps #memorialuniversity #filmscreening #translivesmatter #genderstudies #folklore #film #gender #filmscreening

We are THRILLED to be welcoming one of Canada’s foremost queer activists and scholars to St. John’s next week for two very special events! On Wednesday, October 16 from 6-8pm at Eastern Edge Gallery, join us for: NO PRIDE IN GENOCIDE! Recently “No Pride in Genocide” has been raised by queer and trans activists against the complicity of many larger Pride Committees and mainstream LGBT+ groups in support of the active genocide of the Palestinian people by the Israeli state. Many Pride events across the country became the sites of important struggles with the theme of “No Pride in Genocide!” This is also linked back to organizing in 2021 with the theme of No Pride in Genocide against the genocide of Indigenous people on Turtle Island and settler colonialism. Drawing on the recently released Third Edition of the Regulation of Desire, activist and author Gary Kinsman will link queer and trans struggles against genocide and settler colonialism from Turtle Island to Palestine. Gary Kinsman (he/they) has been involved in Queers4Palestine-Toronto, Abolitionist Pride, the No Pride in Policing Coalition and is a supporter of the Coalition Against Pinkwashing. He/they are the author of The Regulation of Desire: Queer Histories, Queer Struggles and the co-author of The Canadian War on Queers: National Security as Sexual Regulation. This free event sponsored and supported by Queers For Palestine (St. John’s), Eastern Edge Gallery, St. John’s Pride, Palestine Action YYT, MUN Dept. of Gender Studies, Downtown Comics & @aducknameddad ! 📸 = @projectpowerback Check out the separate event listing for The Regulation of Desire Book Launch – happening Thursday October 17 from 5-7pm at the Breezeway Bar at Memorial University!
