🥝🍎 Food Justice Takes All of Us. 🧅🍠

On Saturday, September 19, @CaribbeanEqualityProject, NYC Council Member Rita Joseph (@ritajosephnyc), New York Communities for Change (@ny4change) — Flatbush Chapter, and Flatbush Mixtape (@flatbushmixtape) came together for our monthly Food Distribution in Flatbush, Brooklyn — Little Caribbean, at P.S. 6, Norma Adams Clemons Academy.

Meet Nadia, an enthusiastic volunteer who shows up with heart, energy, and a deep commitment to community by providing interpretation in Haitian Creole. 💚🏾

It feels especially meaningful to know that our culturally responsive approach to Food Justice is resonating — and, more importantly, that it is being understood, embraced, and reflected by the people and communities we serve.

Representation matters. Seeing ourselves, our experiences, and our communities reflected in this work reminds us that food justice is about more than access to food — it’s about dignity, belonging, visibility, and collective care.

And it takes all of us to make this work possible. 🤝🏾 Volunteer with us! Sign up at bit.ly/FoodJusticeVolunteers (link in bio).

💫 Supported by The Campaign Against Hunger (@tcahnyc), the NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (@nycimmigrants), the NYC Mayor’s Public Engagement Unit (@mayorspeu), MetroPlus Health (@metroplushealth), and MUNA Social Services (@munassinc).

🌞 🎒For the first time, we’re taking you behind the scenes of the work that goes into Caribbean Equality Project (@CaribbeanEqualityProject) monthly Food & Essentials Distributions. So much happens before families from our community arrive, and today we want to shine a light on the volunteers and partners who make it all possible. ❤️

This has been a monthly distribution for the past 6 years with our partners NYC Council Member Rita Joseph (@ritajosephnyc), New York Communities For Change (@ny4change)-Flatbush Chapter, and Flatbush Mixtape (@flatbushmixtape) in Flatbush, Brooklyn.

On Saturday, August 22, a full U-Haul truck arrives, packed with large boxes of groceries, fresh produce, and back-to-school essentials. And then the real work begins. Our incredible volunteers break down those boxes, lift, carry, sort, organize, and prepare everything for distribution. 📦💪🏾

It’s physical work. It’s hours of teamwork. And it’s a labor of love.

To our dedicated volunteers: thank you for showing up, putting in the work, and making sure our communities and their families have access to the food and essentials they need. Your commitment does not go unnoticed. 🫶🏾

This is what community care looks like. This is what collective action looks like. 🌎❤️

Supported by The Campaign Against Hunger (@tcahnyc), NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (@nycimmigrants), NYC Mayor’s Public Engagement Unit (@mayorspeu), MetroPlus Health (@metroplushealth), and MUNA Social Services (@munassinc).

📍 Masjid Al-Koaba Mosque, South Jamaica, Queens

We’re proud to have supplied fresh produce and halal meats to families in the mosque’s neighborhood! 🥩🥬 This distribution was made possible through a wonderful collaboration between Masjid Al-Koaba Mosque, Bangladeshi American Society Inc., Council Member Ty Hankerson @cmtyhankerson, MUNA Social Services @munassinc, @nationalgrid, and UA3. ❤️💙

Providing food that reflects our neighbors’ cultural and dietary needs is an important part of UA3’s work. We’re proud to offer halal meats alongside fresh produce so families can access food that fits their needs and traditions.

Special thanks to Asiyah Piper of National Grid and Doreen of South Brooklyn @lionsclubs for coming down and helping make the distribution a success! 🙌

Stopped by @changinglivescc yesterday for our monthly food distribution. This partnership in conjunction with @munassinc is another way we work to fight food insecurity in our community.
