Courting the Light of the Beloved:
A Telling of the Mystical Love Story...
Layla & Majnun

This mystical tale will be woven through the evocative artistic stylings of Frank Salzano's storytelling and William Elan DeHaro's live world music.

Date: Thursday, November 5th
Time: Doors 6:30p, Story 7p
Where: Mars Landing Arts Center - 37 Library St, Mars Hill, NC
*
In honor of the return of the Morning Star, join us for a contemporary telling of Layla & Majnun, the classic Sufi folktale popularized by Nizami, the great 12th-century Persian epic poet.

It’s the story that captured the devotional & mystical heart of the medieval Islamic world. It greatly influenced Shakespeare and many famous poets of Eurasia. This tale is like Romeo & Juliet meets the enchanted, animist heart of the ancestral desert soul. It is a return to the Garden of Eden, to the divine power of Eros. It weds together longing, love, and grief with mystery, annihilation, and the cosmic heart breaking open. Join us for this ritual telling & offering to the Morning Star.

This one is for the iridescent beauties, for our hummingbird friends and their beloved jewel-weed flowers, a marriage tens of millions of years in the making. Safe passage feathered friends, safe passage.
*
This is a ticketed performance in collaboration with Story Parlor! Tickets available on their website, linked in bio.

TWO LOCAL ARTISTS REFLECT ON THEIR WORK SINCE THE FLOOD
Two Asheville artists, Chrys Corn Goodman and Maryana Rivera, have been honored with an invitation to exhibit images of the work that they have created since Hurricane Helene devastated the River Arts District two years ago. The exhibition, titled PostDiluvian, will be at Pink Dog Gallery at 348 Depot Street in Asheville, with an opening reception on Friday, September 25 from 5-8pm to commemorate the two-year anniversary of the hurricane and flood that took place in September 2024. Both artists were represented in the River Arts District when the flood happened, and both will be in attendance at the opening. PostDiluvian will remain on exhibit from September 25 through October 25. The show will focus on themes of restoration, hope, brokenness and resilience and the way that art helps us process the beauty and struggles of life.

Wanna hear us on the Radio? 🔥🎸🙈
You can listen to the interview + live set this Tuesday AM from 9 to 10, hosted by @djsmittymon . 🐦‍🔥🧜🏼‍♂️🐦‍🔥

And *I still need your help* - buy a ticket and help me fill the house for our upcoming concert, Saturday 9/12 in West Asheville! @muse.of.deharo is gracing us with his fast fingers and world music guitar as an opener! My Brother Aywa is getting the final bit of footage for our demo reel so we can start playing out in Charlotte, Atlanta, Nasheville, and beyond!

I love this journey. Make some flyers, burn a CD. Reach out to friends. See what magic unfolds. Music is in my blood, songleading comes from a place of pure joy, channeling, and compassion for those who haven’t spoken their truth. My brothers in the band Peter Boyles and @xuelionstone overflow with talent, concentration, and joy when we’re playing. It’s a treat and an honor to share that magic with folks when we perform.

Cool tribal photo session with @love.cat.alyst @earthbodyphotography was so nourishing!
