Museum for modern & contemporary sculpture in The Hague. Now: Chafes X Giacometti, Femmy Otten, Reclining Figures. Soon: Jakob Grosse-Ophoff

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The October edition of After Hours x Beyond the Eyes at @museumbaz offfered a unique opportunity to hear Portuguese artist Rui Chafes talk about his artistic practices.

After hours is an evening program that showcases creativity of young artists from The Hague and introduces new audiences to sculpture through sound art, theater, dance, music, poetry and installations.

This time, @het_onzichtbare_museum_ joined the programme with live classical music, immersive storytelling and carefully selected scents.

Three things that stayed after the talk:

✨ The abundance of natural light at the museum was a challenge for Chafes, influencing the visual language of his works.

✨ A sculpture is completed in the eye, mind, memory and knowledge of the viewer.

✨ An artwork exists (only) if presented and seen.

Chafes hopes that his work will leave you with questions. Come back, look again and perhaps you'll find at least some of the answers.

#wordtvervolgd

If I had to pick just one event this week, It would be 𝘼𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙃𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨 𝙓 𝘽𝙚𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙙 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙮𝙚𝙨 at @museumbaz. Hearing the artist himself talk about the inspiration behind the exhibited works is an experience not to be missed.

Plus, live classical music, flash tours, clay workshops and a DJ will round off the evening.

Check out @thehaguelocal for a visual glimpse of the exhibition!

Right along the boulevard in Scheveningen, you’ll find SprookjesBeelden aan Zee ✨

More than 20 bronze sculptures by American artist Tom Otterness, inspired by fairytales and stories from all over the world.

From Gulliver and Pinocchio to Moby Dick… and the biggest one of all: the giant Herring Eater 🐟 Some of the sculptures are huge, others are tiny and hidden in between the boulevard, so there’s quite a lot to discover.

It’s completely free and you can visit the sculpture terrace anytime you’re here from The Hague. And if you can’t get enough from sculptures… @museumbaz is located right next to it!
