🤘 ODE AAN DE NEDERROCK! 😄

“The First Holiness Kitschgarden for the Liberation of Love and Peace in Colours” is the name of a pop festival held on 21/22 June 1968 in the Houtrusthallen (The Hague, Netherlands). In the midst of the Flower Power era, the organizers (including Armand Perrenet, the designer of this poster) thought they could fill the Houtrusthallen with 15,000 young people/hippies with what, on paper, seemed an attractive lineup of bands and activities. How different things would turn out.
It all started when the organizers announced on June 13th, just before the original festival date (which was June 14th/15th) that the festival was being postponed by a week (!). The reason of that was, they said, were the delay of the needed work permits for the English bands. The organizers, of course, didn’t mention that many of the English bands weren’t contracted.
Of the English bands announced on the poster (Incredible String Band, (The) Move, Cream, Moody Blues, Traffic, Family, Small Faces, and Pink Floyd), only PINK FLOYD is certain to have performed, with just a few songs. No mention is made of performances by the other English bands in the reports found. It’s also unclear who performed for the Dutch bands (including Groep 1850, Living Kick, Rob Hoeke, and Dirty Underwear).
Immediately after the festival, several newspapers reported on the financial difficulties, and various parties were identified as being at fault. Creditors included the Houtrusthallen, the Tax Authorities, and various impresarios.

This poster is currently offered on the Van Sabben poster auctions website (@vansabbenposterauctions or www.vansabbenauctions.nl ) auction 66 (29 November 2025) , lot 629.
