Daz vs. Standards ("The Masquerade Is Over" Colombian Pop Re-frame) 💃🎹🔥

Sunday "Game of Response" challenge! 🎲🎹

The rules: I hit a random preset beat on the Roland GO:KEYS 5 at @musoscorner don't overthink, and instantly respond on the spot with a standard.

I hit a groove that felt straight out of a Shakira "Hips Don't Lie" / Colombian Pop catalog... and my immediate brain-response was to lay down Allie Wrubel's tragic heartbreak ballad, "The Masquerade Is Over". 🎭💃

Taking one of the heaviest ballads in the Songbook and slapping it over a bouncy Latin-pop pocket creates the ultimate musical contrast.

Unfiltered, playful, and zero over-thinking.
Debuting some of these reframed standards on tour this month!

S/O to Carter & Damien at Musos Corner! Hey @roland_aus @rolandglobal — this preset engine is way too much fun! 😉

Daz vs. Standards vs. GO:KEYS 5 ("Old Devil Moon") 🌙🎹💃

Testing out a self-imposed creative rule: The Game of Response. 🎲🎹

The rule is simple: I don't pre-arrange the groove. I hit a random preset beat on an external machine—whether it's the new Roland GO:KEYS 5, a legacy synth, or a toy Casio keyboard—and immediately respond on the spot with a standard.

While at @musoscorner I stumbled across a fresh, hip-shaking R&B/Soul-Disco beat on the GO:KEYS 5. My immediate instinct was to lay down Burt Lane's classic "Old Devil Moon".

Flipping an Afro-Cuban/Swing standard over a syncopated funk-soul pocket keeps the arranging process completely unpolished, playful, and fun.
Debuting a full slate of these reframed standards on tour next month!

Cold Chisel "Forever Now" (GO:KEYS 5 Harmonizer Test) 🎙️🎹🇦🇺

Testing out the onboard Vocal Harmonizer on the new Roland GO:KEYS 5. @musoscorner today with a classic slice of Aussie Gold—Cold Chisel's "Forever Now". 🎙️🎹✨

Don Walker’s songwriting on this tune is pure art—tragic, beautiful, and timeless.

I used this track to test toggling the vocal harmonizer on and off in real-time: keeping it stripped-back and solo for the verses, and slapping the harmonizer on during the choruses to stack 3-part chordal harmonies right off my key voicings.

While no machine is 100% perfect, having this kind of vocal processing built right into an $800 board is seriously fun—and ridiculously useful for solo/duo performers on the road.

Massive thanks again to Carter and Damien at Musos Corner for letting me test-drive this beast!

My Girl (Harmonic Re-frame) on GO:KEYS 5 🎹⚡️
Another impromptu jam at Musos Corner testing out the new Roland GO:KEYS 5! 🎹✨
Checking out the new batch of syncopated beat feels on this board, so I threw one on and gave The Temptations' iconic "My Girl" a fresh Daz re-frame.
If you listen closely, I’m doing a subtle trick with the underlying harmonic subfloor—contracting the phrase structure so the tune moves with an irresistible forward momentum, without altering the soul of the original melody.
Massive thanks again to Carter and Damien @musoscorner for letting me rock out in the amp room!

Gershwin Standard Test Drive on GO:KEYS 5 🎹🔥
Putting the new Roland GO:KEYS 5 through its paces at Musos Corner with an R&B funk re-frame of George & Ira Gershwin’s "Our Love Is Here to Stay"! 🎹✨
Fun history note for the tune geeks: this was the absolute last song George Gershwin ever composed before he passed away in 1937. Ira finished the lyrics after George’s death as a poignant tribute to his brother.
Taking such a sacred standard, throwing it over a stanky R&B groove, and splitting the left-hand bass on this board felt ridiculously good. Perfect test run for the new "Funky Standards" project I'm building for December!
Big thanks to Carter and Damien @musoscorner for letting me rock out in the amp room (metal riffs in the background included 😂)!
@roland_aus @rolandglobal this GO:KEYS 5 is a serious contender.

The story behind my guitar... 🎸

My guitar was actually gifted to me for my 21st birthday. How lucky am I?

For years, she was mostly played in my bedroom while I focused on developing my voice. But now, she's getting a real workout as I spend more time playing and bringing the two together.

She's well-loved these days and currently smells a little like a kitchen, because that's where she's spent most of her recent playing hours.

This photo was taken on the day she came home with me. Back then, I was a 21-year-old girl with a dream and a guitar. I didn't know where the journey would take me, but I'm so grateful I kept following the music. ✨🎸
