b*ysclub | the tattoo studio | bts on a saturday in march that was bitten by frost but soaked in indiscriminate sunlight, we shot the scene at my studio @magicdoortattoo . I feel like I grew up with some of these people in my tattoo journey and on a personal level 🖤 @muthatattoo & @softnatured_tattoopeople having a kiki @keneko.pov on bts! @paintedbylara_muah bodies my mug at 8am. we drank coffee and listened to bruno mars. we staged some setups as didn’t have the time to do actual tattoos. wrapping my machine without gloves felt very wrong!!! bts-ception @niko.fox @niko.fox soccer mom soaking up the sun! @rubiat.svg & @keneko.pov hanging on set @muthatattoo @loser_manual & @softnatured_tattoopeople staging some setups. they made all different kinds including handpoke, some coloured ink and one that is (realistically) just plain messy lol more kiki-ing 🖤 @binkc @mano_

“Poetics of Relation” a live painting by moi done at @clubbabies 🪡 this painting way based/inspired/interpretation by the book “Poetics of relation” by Édouard Glissant , a living interactive alter. I could not recommend this book enough. “Just as the first uprooting was not marked by any defiance, in the same way the prescience and actual experience of Relation have nothing to do with vanity. Peoples who have been to the abyss do not brag of being chosen. They do not believe they are giving birth to any modern force. They live Relation and clear the way for it, to the extent that the oblivion of the abyss comes to them and that, consequently, their memory intensifies.”

the tattoo studio | b*y oh b*y. my original pitch to @club.lore for the club issue was to document queer/trans folks in the community-taught tattoo scene and their spaces. over my 8 years tattooing, i’ve been a witness to queer and trans diy-ers making a new lane for themselves. this subsequently changed the industry forever, inspiring people to build spaces with the intention of opening the door to a trade and an art form instead of keeping gates. my first experience of working in a space like this @binkc’s studio, the first east-end iteration of @nicerfolks, who took me on as a baby home-tattooer in 2020 🖤 and the rest is history! sharing essential sanitation info continues a legacy of harm reduction in the queer community. providing mentorship and encouraging self-teaching has built long-term, fulfilling careers for so many people, myself included. it is so inspiring to see queer folks continue to spearhead private studios that give newer artists a chance, and facilitates clients feeling comfortable and safe speaking up for themselves. more musings in the next caption >>> _______________________________________________
