happy cast album release day to the spotlight’s shadow!!!

I still cannot believe that our beautiful queer show is now available to be heard around the world on all platforms.

I first had the idea for The Spotlight’s Shadow when I was living in NYC & working in old Follies Theatres, lined with photos of performers from the 1920s. I remember looking at the photos of hundreds of women and thinking “surely some of them had to be gay?”

As queer women, I find there’s already not much representation in art and media, but especially for an 2SLGBTQIA+ story that doesn’t end in tragedy. It was my goal to write a story that made people feel heard, seen, and loved, and it’s been an honour to achieve that goal.

I couldn’t be prouder of the incredible team that went into being the story to the spotlight, Vanessa, for encouraging me to write and create this show even when I didn’t believe it to be possible - and for bringing the story to life with your direction. Grace, for believing in this story from day one (even when we originally thought you could be Vera - you’re truly Nettie through and through) and trusting the process and sharing your incredible talents. Dad, for working on our second musical together to orchestrate not only these incredible songs but producing this album as well, (we are one hell of a team!) Mum, for your beautiful designs and costumes created with so much love and detail by you and Krista and Karen. Lola and Avry for being the most incredible and inspiring tech team and the best possible humans, Keegan for being our “man” and lending your voice to the album as well, and everyone else who was involved in bringing this beautiful story to life.

Love is our love,
and we’re here to stay.

Listen to THE SPOTLIGHT’S SHADOW (ORIGINAL CAST RECORDING) available everywhere now!
