Today is October 12, dia de la Resistencia Indígena 🤎

534 years since they arrived on lands that were already inhabited, with their own cultures, languages, histories and ways of living. They didn’t discover anything because we were already here and we are still here.

And with everything happening in Peru and our continent right now, I think about how this history is still affecting our people today. The racism, the violence, the exploitation of our lands, the silencing of Indigenous communities, nothing of this comes out of nowhere. These are the consequences of centuries of colonization and political systems that continue to fail the very people who have protected these territories for generations!!!!

And now while parts of Peru are burning, it’s heartbreaking to see our lands, our ecosystems and our communities suffering once again. But despite everything, estamos aqui!!!! In our traditions, our faces and in every new generation that refuses to forget where we come from. Because cultures are not something from the past, they are alive, they evolve, and they will continue to exist forever <3

Please take a moment to share what’s happening in Peru and, if you can, donate to the fundraising supporting the communities and firefighters affected by the fires.

Que viva la resistencia de nuestros pueblos, todo los dias. La memoria sigue viva siempre.

I got to creative direct these photos (and pose in them) with my brilliant friend @muzkaa who also took the photos and @franki_wa_1 who did the HMU! It was very fun to capture the surrealism that inhabits the Colombian streets💚
