Last night, I had the incredible opportunity to bring a little piece of my own artistic vision to life for Boston Arts Academy @foundationbaa

After months of planning, I couldn’t be more grateful to @sofiveglia of @eventhausboston for bringing me along on this wonderful adventure, to @maryloganz and @regancomm for trusting me to bring the vision to life, and to the remarkable Denella ms.ddjc for all her hard work and dedication throughout the process.

The evening was filled with so much talent and inspiration, from celebrating the honorees to performances by the students and the beautiful @jenniferhollidayofficial , the original Dreamgirl, who reminded us that it’s never too late to chase our dreams.

Hats off to everyone who worked so hard to make this evening so special for these young minds. Being surrounded by so much creativity, passion, and talent was a beautiful reminder how lucky I am to be able to do what I love.

This summer @kevcherry10 and I launched something we have been building toward for years. And I am only now finding the words to tell you about it.
Inkwell Leadership Institute @inkwellleadershipinstitute officially welcomed its first cohorts to Oak Bluffs, Martha’s Vineyard and nothing could have prepared us for what it would feel like to watch it come to life.
ILI is a multi-year leadership development program for high-potential students from Boston’s most historically disinvested communities, and from the year-round working families of Martha’s Vineyard who have lived in the shadow of this island’s abundance without access to any of it. We believe that talent is everywhere. Opportunity is not. We are building the institution that changes that with rigorous curriculum, year-round mentorship, college preparation, financial literacy, mental health support, and a summer residency on the Vineyard that gives young people a new vision of what is possible for their lives. 🫶🏽🚀📒🤎
Our students came through our partners at the Boys & Girls Club of Boston @bgcboston -supported byM&T Bank, @mandt_bank & @jpmorganchase institutions that believed in what we were building before the world could see it.
We sat in @valannmosley living room with seven Black mayors. @stevebenjaminsc We went paddle boarding with @gbengaakinnagbe . We surprised our students with a zoom w/@yarashahidi and watched their faces in that moment. And then, on a sidewalk in Oak Bluffs, we ran into @dwyanewade He didn’t have to stop. He didn’t have to look up. But he did — he saw our students, he stopped, he spoke to them, he encouraged them. He gave them the moment that every young person dreams of when they imagine meeting their hero. That kind of grace is not small. For those kids, it was everything. We attending the @mvaaff, did yoga on the beach. 🧘🏽‍♀️we were moved by extraordinary guest speakers who came to the Institute to show our students what is possible for them.Richard Taylor taught them about the deep, extraordinary history of the island. To everyone who believed in us and gave us your time and treasure - THANK YOU♥️ The young people of @inkwellleadershipinstitute are your legacy too!
