When the shrieking eye turns inward, to the prison without locks, weakness laid bare. “Lonely Vigil” comes from THOU’s 2024 album Umbilical. This live performance at Saint Vitus Bar captures just how much weight the song carries outside the studio. Video by @mvslive Full set available on YouTube Listen to THOU at full volume. Direct and punishing, suffocating at times, but with a strange beauty running through it. #sludge #thouband

Fear and Inevitability of Being Misunderstood (ink and watercolor on Arches Hot Press). Finished this one hours before we started hanging @saintvitusbar & @selva_nyc’s Into the Night, up now at Selva in Bushwick. This was my first show as a curator and I was unreasonably lucky to have a dream group of artists participate in the show! It’ll be on view through 11/4. I would wax poetic here about how meaningful it was to curate my first art show under the Saint Vitus banner, but I know I’d fall far short of being able to articulate what it means to still be a part of the Vitus family in 2025. Suffice to say: massive appreciation to @confinesworld for trusting me with the task, incredible gratitude to @softcircle, @mvslive, @nikkisneakers, @karlynnholland, @ittecorc, @justinweatherholtz, and @laylawalmartbag for contributing such incredible work, and to @ohaileigh, Nikki, and Alex for helping hang the show. And an extra special thanks to @zacharylipez, @mrbendanger, and @bequeathor for spinning excellent tunes for the opening. And to everyone who rallied after the floodpocalypse to attend the opening, and the amazing staff at Selva! My heart is full (my dudes). #saintvitusbar #selvanyc #intothenight #penandinkdrawing #penandinkart #illustration #darksurrealism #creepmachine #beautifulbizarre #mydudes

Last, but certainly not least! @ittecorc! Alex Crocetti’s deft, hallucinogenic science fiction worlds are unsettling and beautiful. His pen and ink drawings contain rich narrative universes. I cannot WAIT for you to to see this work in person. It’s incredible! @saintvitusbar X @selva_nyc’s Into the Night opens Thursday, 10/30 at 8PM! See you there!

Next up: the inimitable @nikkisneakers. Via her longtime participation in nearly all aspects of New York’s underground music scene (not an understatement—you definitely encountered her playing at least one role at Vitus), Nikki Sneakers has honed a remarkable eye and instinct when it comes to photographing musicians and artists. Nikki’s work is instantly recognizable; her transportive live music photography captures the dynamic and tension of performance while her portraits are striking yet still undeniably soft and human. She is highly gifted at bridging the sonic and visual languages of music and art, a skill she’s perfected since her teenage years when she first began taking the train from Long Island to New York City to photograph bands. She moved to NYC full time to attend SVA to study photography, receiving her degree in 2007, and has steadily been a part of the underground ever since. I am so thrilled to have Nikki be a part of this show, and excited for you to see her work in person. Thursday, @saintvitusbar X @selva_nyc’s Into the Night opens! 8PM, join us!

Next up: @mvslive! Our very own Frank Huang, who has likely been the one who’s filmed the @saintvitusbar shows you’ve seen on YouTube. Frank’s also a prolific artist who has created videos and live visuals for artists we KNOW you love. Come check out some of his personal work on Thursday, 10/30, at @selva_nyc in Bushwick.

Don’t know how to do this without being a weirdo but I will also have a couple pieces in this show! Bio below. Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed pieces to this show!! It’s amazing to show alongside such an insane group of artists. Pls come out Thursday, 10/30, at 8PM. I will also ABSOLUTELY be in costume because it is spooky week and you can’t stop me. Join me at @selva_nyc! A huge thank you to the wonderful @saintvitusbar family for letting me sully your good name. 🫀 Caroline Harrison (@carolinedraws) is an artist and illustrator living in New York. She has worked with a number of artists across the heavy and underground music scenes, including SunnO))), Dethklok, Emma Ruth Rundle, Pig Destroyer, Marissa Nadler, Saetia, Kool Keith, Inter Arma, KEN mode, Pyrrhon, Artificial Brain, Chat Pile, Pile, Portrayal of Guilt, Gigan, Scarcity, and more. Her drive to examine and understand experiences with alienation, resilience, anxiety, and horror informs her choices of repulsive or disquieting subjects. She seeks to capture that sense of confusion that comes from unexpected mixtures of beauty and ugliness. Her drawings leverage the medium’s immediacy, its physicality, and its foundational relationship to our introductory experiences with art to create meaningful connections with the viewer. She is beyond proud to get to curate this show under the Saint Vitus flag, having managed their social media and marketing for nearly a decade.

Next featured artist: @softcircle, AKA Hisham Bharoocha! Hisham Akira Bharoocha is a multimedia artist based in Brooklyn, New York, working across various mediums including large-scale murals, paintings, drawings, collages, audio/visual installations, and performances. As a musician, Bharoocha has a long list of accomplishments, including being a founding member of the experimental rock group Black Dice, and performing in in many bands touring the world, such as Lightning Bolt, Pixeltan, Soft Circle, IIII, 41 Strings featuring Nick Zinner, and Boredoms. His latest band, Kill Alters, is beginning to tour the world. You might have seen them play at Saint Vitus (Caroline’s note: the last show I saw at Saint Vitus included an amazing set by Kill Alters) Bharoocha’s work touches on the intricacies of mental architecture and self-made symbolism. His fascination begins with how the mind creates behavioral patterns based on the way a person is raised, what kind of cultural background that individual has, and what type of environment he or she is brought up in. Once a human begins to develop, it creates associations between life experiences, objects and imagery to better understand the world surrounding it, how to assimilate to it, and how to define oneself through this understanding. Bharoocha’s work is a visualization of the seemingly disparate connections he sees in his own mind based on his own life’s story, between experiences felt through the senses, and how the mind tries to understand the world we live in. A lot of Bharoocha’s realizations come during meditation or dream states. He is also fascinated by psychological practices, such as free association. He has exhibited internationally and been featured in publications I know you’ve read! If those two paragraphs didn’t convince you to come check out his work, you might need to get your pulse checked. 10/30 opening at @selva_nyc, presented by @saintvitusbar, 8PM.

Next artist: @justinweatherholtz! Hailing from outside of Reading, Pennsylvania, Justin has been living in New York for 18 years. He’s been tattooing for 26 years (Caroline’s note: he is a fucking ageless vampire) and evolving his illustration and painting style along side of his tattoo work. Most of his work is done with ink, liquid acrylic, watercolor, and gouache. Most on paper or Tyvek. Most of the imagery addresses Death and mortality and often using the reaper character as a protagonist. I am SO thrilled that Justin is going to be a part of Into the Night, opening Thursday, 10/30 at Selva, presented by @saintvitusbar and @selva_nyc! 8PM. With a slate of super sick artists! Mark your calendars.
