“The weak compete. The strong dominate.” ~Grant Cordone

For me…the end of an era. Youth MMA is in my past now. I end it with medals belts, and titles that soon will be nothing more than memories to remind me of where I am and who has helped me get here.

I look forward to what lies ahead as I follow the path that God has laid out for me. 🙏

We’re coming to the end with the number of old issues I have of Southern California Motocross Newspaper. This one from August 6, 1975 seems to have a Super Bowl of MX hangover. The big Coliseum race was the week before. Still there’s lots of racing action. The interview is with Tim Welker. I have to admit, I don’t remember that name from back in the day. But that’s part of the fun of these vintage issues, you learn something new, even though it’s old. (On my down/up design Facebook page, I post the full interviews. FB’s format allows me to crop the photos differently and add captions). In the N. Doe cartoon, the hot summer weather has one side benefit. The SCM cover features Dave Haugh on a Rokon. Not sure how this abomination happened - I remember him on Maicos. This issue had tons of photos. Featured racers are Eddie Cole, Danny Sanchez, Kenny Zahrt, @denton8x ,Dave Foltz, Gary Ogden, Jim West, Sue Fish, Will Harper, Rick “Super Hunky” Seimans, Willie Simons, Dave Krikac, Allen Cooke, @mxlunde and @daveeropkin. The Tom Corley photo of Bruce Baron, first published here in SCM, has become iconic. And it’s crazy to think in the photo of @mxgoldenboy dicing with @dannylaporte82, that in only a year later they’d be battling for the 125cc National Championship. #southerncaliforniamotocrossnewspaper #4t #scm #mx #promotocross #motocross #betterthancyclenews #supercrosscartoon #dirtbike #dirtbikeart #dirtbikecartoon #motorcycle #motorcycleart #motorcyclecartoon #curtevanscartoons #motocrosshistory #socalmotocross #downupdesign #scmnewspaper #ndoeracingteam #motocrosshistory #motojournalist #bmxhistory #downupdesignmerch #saddleback_park #indiandunes #curtswork #cmcmotocross
