Michael King is one to watch.

As Chairman of the Michigan Young Black Leaders Coalition and a Michigan LCY organizer, Michael represents exactly what we mean when we say Black Action. Not just talking about change, but organizing, building, showing up, and helping move a new generation of Black leadership forward.

The Michigan Black Summit is about identifying leaders who are doing the work right now and creating space for them to be seen, heard, and connected to power. Michael’s work speaks to the future of Black Michigan: young leadership, civic engagement, community organizing, and action rooted in purpose.

This is what “What’s Going On?” is all about.
Not just asking the question.
Answering it with Black Action.

“If not me, then who? If not now, then when?”

Last week, I had the honor of organizing a Capitol Day alongside the Michigan League of Conservation Voters, the Michigan Black Summit, the Michigan Young Black Leaders Coalition, and many incredible partners from across Michigan.

Together, we brought dozens of advocates to Lansing to speak out against rising utility bills and the impact they have on working families and frontline communities. We met with nearly 1/3 of the Michigan House, advocated for affordable energy, and made it clear that people should always come before profits & politics.

I was also honored to speak at the press conference and help amplify these important issues.

I’m grateful for this leadership opportunity. I hope that moments like this remind others that young people, especially young Black people, belong in leadership spaces.
We don’t just need to amplify youth voices; we need to amplify youth leadership!!

GET ACTIVE & SHOW UP!!!
