As we finish our gala appreciation posts, there is one family I absolutely have to give their flowers to Elijah Davis’s family. ❤️
The truth is, if I never met Elijah, I never would have met his family. And if I never met his family, I honestly don’t know if horses would have ever become part of my life.
I wasn’t born into this family, but over the last five years they’ve loved me like I was.
From Mother Ebony, Auntie Myisha, grandparents, cousins, and so many others, they’ve welcomed me with open arms and supported me through some of the biggest moments of my life. Last June, I attended a retreat at Roy’s Ranch with the Davis family. Before that day, I had never really been around horses. I remember leaving that ranch feeling so peaceful. Looking back now, it’s crazy to think that one invitation would end up changing the direction of my life.
Today, horses are one of the reasons The M.A.R.S.H.E.L.L.E. Project exists.
Mother Ebony, thank you for always being someone I could lean on. You’ve been there through personal struggles, building this organization, and moments when I simply needed someone to listen. You were the first person to purchase a VIP ticket to our gala, but your support started long before that. You’ve always found a way to show me that you care, and I’ll forever be grateful.
Auntie Myisha, thank you for always pouring into me. Whether helping with gala details, giving advice, checking in, or reminding me that you’re proud of me, your support has never gone unnoticed.
And Elijah, thank you for introducing me to a family that became my family. Over the last five years, we’ve grown so much together. Through every lesson, challenge, accomplishment, and dream, you’ve continued to push me to become a better version of myself.
As someone who spent much of my life looking for where I belonged, having people who genuinely love you, support you, and celebrate your wins means everything.
Thank you, for the love you’ve shown me, the support you’ve given The M.A.R.S.H.E.L.L.E. Project, and for introducing me to horses. That one experience helped shape a vision that is now impacting foster youth.
I love y’all more than you know. ❤️
