Meet Myla Kar. This December Myla is graduating early with a degree in Marketing Management and leaving behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, and servant leadership. From intramurals to Women's Business Network, Resident Life and Calvin Startup Garage, Myla has had an impact on many different spaces across campus! As a student entrepreneur, she launched @myluvs.co a sustainable fashion brand inspired by her classroom experiences and Calvin community connections. “Calvin taught me to view others as Image Bearers, treating everyone with dignity and compassion. My professors modeled kindness and servant leadership, which inspired me to create spaces of belonging for others." After graduation Myla plans to explore roles in Digital Marketing, hoping to combine her marketing skills with her passion for supporting mission-driven organizations.

Have you heard of the Earthly Refillery? It’s a Grand Rapids local business whose goal is to promote sustainable practices and prevent waste. They do this by jarring goods from food to cleaning products to spices, and customers are invited to bring their own jars, or take from their communal section, to fill. Recently, MyLuvs went and checked out this shop and had a blast! The process was super simple and rewarding knowing we filled our needs without creating packaging waste. Besides the personable workers and wide range of products, we also so appreciated the breakdown of prices and a college student discount on top of it all! Happy #EarthDay! 🌱🌏 Today on Commons Lawn students were able to experience ways Calvin and the community participate in creation care. From upcycling and recycling clothes to identifying which animals make up Michigan’s ecosystem, students learned more about sustainability and ways to get involved to make our community greener. Meet Myla and Haley, two customers doing amazing work in the community and in God’s Kingdom! These Calvin students own and operate a clothing business called @myluvs.co , an outlet for younger audiences to buy second hand clothing affordably and conveniently. In modeling Jesus’s work of redemption, Myla and Haley “redeem” clothes from resale stores, like New 2 You, and sell them at pop-ups on college campuses, local businesses, and online. They believe in selling clothes that are both stylish and modest to help young women feel confident in their clothes and present themselves modestly as Christians. “We redeem these clothes because Jesus has redeemed us,” Haley shared. In furthering the business’s mission of redeeming clothes, MyLuvs has just launched its “Redeemed Clothing” line, a collection of clothes with hand-stitched messages to help their customers shine their light and be reminded of their identity in Christ. Myla and Haley are avid thrifters and buy their merchandise from a variety of local resale stores, including New 2 You. They love going to local stores with strong missions and clothes that feature “timelessness, modesty, and quality.” We’re so proud of the work that Myla and Haley are doing through MyLuvs and are excited to support them!
