👑 My second read for #queerblackathon was 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐞 𝐌𝐞 𝐈𝐧 𝐀 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐧 by Leah Johnson! It was a 𝐅𝐈𝐕𝐄-𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝!! Order it from your local bookstore, pick up the audiobook on Libro.FM, do what you've gotta do, but get it for your classroom. The characterization is great, the plot is a fun 90s Rom Com, and the commentary comes through. This book makes you think and question things without it feeling heavy handed. It reminds you of all the complicated things that go with being a teen, and helps you see things from a viewpoint of someone outside of yourself.⁣

If you haven't picked up You Should See Me In A Crown yet, here's the summary: Liz Lighty has always believed she's too black, too poor, too awkward to shine in her small, rich, prom-obsessed midwestern town. But it's okay -- Liz has a plan that will get her out of Campbell, Indiana, forever: attend the uber-elite Pennington College, play in their world-famous orchestra, and become a doctor. But when the financial aid she was counting on unexpectedly falls through, Liz's plans come crashing down . . . until she's reminded of her school's scholarship for prom king and queen. 🐶 Lab (a book everyone likes)
Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen. Everybody likes Austen right? If you don't, your doing it wrong. The quality and subtlety of her writing is amazing. Just reread S+S last month and it was incredible. . 🐶 Pomeranian (A fluffy read) Three men in a boat by Jerome K Jerome. Had me in stitches. Crying. But, i found out later, because my co-workers weren't readers and the book was an old hardback they thought I was reading the bible and laughing. People are strange.

🐶 Dachshund (A book that takes you a long time to read). Testament of Youth by Vera Brittain. Not because it's bad, just been a while since I read a book over 600 pages long. .
🐶 Chihuahua (small but mighty) - Women and Power by Mary Beard. I'd categorise this with We Should All be Feminists and A Room of One's Own. A snappy manifesto which ranges over 3000 years of primary sources and makes irrefutable point after irrefutable point. Excellent.
. 🐶 Pitbull (A character with a hard exterior but soft on the inside) Professor McGonagall. Looks like she chews wasps for fun, but when she's batting for your team she's behind you body and soul. And she's a softy underneath. 📚
