ARCHIVE 001
Fathom V — BeauFort London

Rome. The night. Excess.

Beneath the gilded splendour of Nero’s palaces, the festivities linger until dawn.

The air becomes sensuality. Excess becomes art.

In the distance, Rome burns.

And in this night where all senses intertwine, where beauty flirts with decadence, an unprecedented fragrance begins to emerge.

Intoxicating. Carnal. Unforgettable.

A scent of every sin.

100 sprays. “Mail shock”. A “scent bubble.”

Who’s an expert - and who’s just making content?

As fragrance becomes bigger, younger and more influential than ever, the internet is also becoming a very noisy place to learn about perfume. From questionable spray-counting contests to advice that makes you wonder who, exactly, is checking the facts, the line between expertise and performance is getting blurry.

But here’s the good news: perhaps people are ready to step away from the screen.
The Analog Summer of 2026 is encouraging Gen Z to put down the phone and rediscover actual experiences - and that could be very good news for fragrance retail.
Because the best perfume shops don’t simply sell bottles. They curate. They educate. They listen. They create discovery.

The magic happens when a knowledgeable consultant takes the time to understand the person standing in front of them - and uses that knowledge to make a thoughtful recommendation.

Not viral hype. Not bogus banter. Not nonsense masquerading as expertise.
Just someone who listens and says: “After what you’ve told me, try this one on your skin.”

In our latest Notes from the Scent Front, we wonder, who’s an expert? And is the great retailer finally ready for a comeback?
