When “I could eat” becomes urgent and hungry becomes hangry, might we suggest these in-between-bites and flavor-packed snacks?

Chef-owner Melissa Perello discovered our shop years ago, after a hunt for Urfa Biber led her to us. Her restaurant Octavia’s take on a “Devil’s Egg” features a jammy center and plenty of Eastern Mediterranean Spice, highly recommended with a side of crusty bread for dipping.

We are so excited to welcome Flour + Water to our community! They opened their first Oakland outpost last year, and their Grand Lake Shake wings have been a staple on the menu ever since.

Kampot Peppercorns are the star of Michelin-mentioned Nite Yun’s Khmer Fried Chicken. Just looking at these crackly-craggy-crunchy-wings, studded with peppercorns, makes us want to hop on the ferry to seek them out.

Grand Lake Kitchen has been our neighbor-besties for nearly 14 years! These juicy Lamb Merguez meatballs feature a smoky-savory pistachio Salsa Macha chile oil. We may or may not grab a plate on our lunch break.

TAROCCO is our Berkeley warehouse team’s favorite lunch spot for flavor-packed salads. Their bright purple charred cabbage transforms lunch into art, and lunch-al-desko into something worth celebrating.

Joodooboo is a tofu and banchan shop in North Oakland serving fresh dooboo and hyper-seasonal veggies. They’re featuring our Vadouvan dusted atop crispy-fried tofu this October like it’s 2010 again.

Umami architects Yoko and Kayoko are serving up bowls of Sesame Miso Shake popcorn at their sake bar this October, the perfect pairing for our two collab cocktails also on the menu.

A little Berkeley (@mytarocco) inspiration for dinner tonight. 🌿

- Roasted broccoli over garlic-lemon labneh
- Japanese sweet potatoes with harissa-honey yogurt
- Jammy eggs with sumac
- Green heirloom tomatoes tossed with marinated red onions, olives, capers, feta, fresh herbs, and pistachios

Mostly an exercise in using what I already had in the fridge, inspired by one of my favorite Berkeley spots, Tarocco.

It’s my birthday y’all, and it’s already been a crazy and good birthday week so far. As you know from yesterday’s post, there is definitely a heavy feeling I am fighting but all the love and light I have been showered in these past few days has helped a lot. And now that I have accomplished my long set goal of 10
Chin-ups for my birthday, I feel extra proud of myself 😅 My Dad is very proud of me (he told me that today🥹), and I know my Mama is too! It was not easy- you’ll see how much I struggle with the 10th rep, but I did it! Chin ALLL the way over the bar. Swipe to see the rest of my birthday pics!

Started celebrating on Saturday with a late night out after kids were already asleep. My wonderful father came over to watch them so we could go dancing!

The inimitable @shondella.reed surprised me with the most special and amazing set up at the club that night! Thank you friend! They even got my name spelled right! Loved every second of this.

Always a good time with @shondella.reed and @ayitsnay!

Sunday morning my beautiful friends gathered to walk along the water with me. @pujya_pascal came later but pictured here is @pelota04, @jamieschenker_ , @shannonlee280, @sonjubb81, @s.manrique.s, and Gabriela, Emi and Clara ❤️

My beautiful dear Carmen @carmenbreathingradiance made me an amazing cake!!!! Thank you friend!

Me and mama at my first birthday!

Special lunch with @rafresh2413, @peace_beyond_passion , @anayansi_dc, and @shondella.reed and Dad! At my favorite favorite restaurant in Berkeley, @mytarocco , run by the glorious Sequoia and Jason! Tonight we’ll celebrate with the whole family. Pic of that to come!

This week has dragged me. I cried twice today before I even got to work today. I got lunch from @mytarocco and had the most wholesome, delicious, and nourishing meal. The owner is always so kind and present. What she’s created is really special. I love that it’s always different items. There’s nothing like a bowl! Truly a highlight of today. Grateful for pockets of happiness in overwhelm.

💐This renaissance woman isn’t just an entrepreneur @twinlettes she’s a true connoisseur of the arts. 🎶✨💃🏾🎤
Alongside her bestie Sequoia, owner of @mytarocco, they’ve created a space in the heart of Berkeley that does it all…
.
Lunch. Coffee. Meetups. Movement. A drink or two. Remote work vibes.
A whole experience, not just a stop.
.
Come for one thing… stay for everything.
.
Be well,
Love, Mom
