Bring a ball, a book or a buddy, but most importantly… be ready to play and have some fun. If you’re in the Bay, pull up to the Cataldi courts this Saturday!!

This chapter of Open Practice is inspired by the Valkyries inaugural season. Last week I had the opportunity to go to their first ever playoff game in San Jose, my hometown!! It was so awesome to see that area of downtown SJ filled with women’s sports fans. I ran into a few former of my high school hoop friends (more on that later…) The experience reminded me of how special the basketball community is and how lucky I am to be a part of it. Come hang!!

a good read on making deep commitments and community by @peteddavis. An important thing I’ve noted is that it feels really good to be in service to others and be tied to a cause outside of myself.

Some big reasons why I enjoyed team sports so much as a kid was because it gave me structure, socialization, and physical fitness. It was a place where my mind and body was one before I even knew that there was a disconnect in the first place.

Moreover, joining a team means making a commitment to show up every day and dedicate to playing your role to make the whole better. + There’s a lot of examples of solidarity that can be found in team sports, as we’re seeing with the players in the WNBA’s CBA negotiation. Excited to finish the book 📕
