For three years in a row now, Bill has completed Midwest OCR the day before the race so that we can do a final run through and make sure it's ready for you.

He also comes in days early to help us build and set up. Whatever we need, wherever we need it, Bill is there. (Unless spiders are involved. Then you're on your own. 🕷️).

And let's be clear. Bill can RACE. He has completed every obstacle we've ever put on our course. Every. Single. One. He's fast too, so if he ever lined up on race day, it wouldn't surprise us to see him standing on the podium.

He's also the owner of @mythic_race in Blodgett, Missouri. Obstacles like Vahalla, 6-Axis, and Dra'Gaffe' that have been on our course are all obstacles from Bill's race.

If his event is not on your 2027 calendar yet, you need to fix that.

Bill, you make this race better every single year and we're so thankful to have you on our team.

Homecoming.

If we could rewind the clock and bring back every person who helped build this race, we would. The athletes, coaches, teams, volunteers, and communities whose names and faces became part of Frontline OCR’s soul.

A lot can happen in a year. Since the 11th Wave, we’re working harder than ever to make the results of that work visible on our way to the 12th wave, in the stories we’re telling, the major support we’re bringing in, and the race we’re building for you.

We’re working to make the 12th Wave our greatest yet. But the heart and soul of this race has never been the rigs, the course, or the obstacles. It’s you.

The people that have been here since the beginning, the people that found us along the way, and the people who stepped away due to life, change of focus, or circumstances beyond their control.

The people who built this race can never be replaced. The athletes who carried the mission forward have added their own chapters to its story. At the 12th Wave, we want to bring those chapters together—and recognize everyone who helped get us here.

Whether you return to the course or come back to volunteer, we want you to see what Frontline has become and remember that you helped make it.

You helped build this race. You still have a place in it.

It’s time to come home.

Before you ran the race, they did.

Shoutout to Ryan of @hartfit_colorado_springs and Bill of @mythic_race.

These two helped with setup and race day, and they also ran the course first. They checked mileage, checked course tape, and hit the obstacles, because they're OCR racers just like you and me.

But they ran it alone. No crowd cheering. No emcee hyping them up at the start. No one waiting at the finish line. Just them, the course, and me popping up at a few spots to grab video and check mile markers.

Lucky for their age groups, they raced before race day. Both got through every obstacle, but they chose to help us instead.

If you're not following them both on social, do it now and then add their events to your 2027 schedule.

Event Info:
@mythic_race - April 10th | Blodgett, MO
@hartfit_colorado_springs - Sept. 6th | Peyton, CO

Bill Shell is one of those people who makes the OCR community better simply by being part of it.

A former professional track runner, Bill brought plenty of speed with him when he made the transition into OCR. But speed alone doesn’t solve every obstacle. Early in his career, he struggled with some of the highly technical challenges the sport throws at you. He kept working, kept learning and kept coming back.

Now he’s the guy you want demonstrating just about any obstacle. Bill has built an exceptional record over the years, with near-perfect obstacle performance and the experience to make difficult skills look understandable.

He’s also a fixture in the Midwest OCR community: owner of @mythic_race in Sikeston, Missouri, head of the amazing Mythic Race Pro Team, and one of the most valuable athletes, race owners and community members in the sport. Mythic Race returns April 10, 2027.

Bill has competed in the Frontline OCR Heroes Competitive wave in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2026. He earned third place in 2021, then came back this year and took first.

From learning the obstacles the hard way to becoming someone others look to for guidance, Bill’s journey is a reminder that great obstacle athletes are made through patience, practice and persistence. We’re proud to have him as part of the Frontline OCR community.

🚨 Obstacle Demo 🚨 Dra'Gaffe

Competitive Rules: Must pull the rope to set the first vertical bar so that it is leaning towards you. Must use the first bar. (No stretching and leaning out to start on the second bar.) No flipping on the cargo net.

🚨 Obstacle Demo 🚨 Lift Off

Hoist the weights up by pulling the rope until it reaches the pulley up top and then let it back down.

DO NOT LET THE WEIGHTS JUST DROP TO THE GROUND FROM THE TOP. Lower the weights back down until they reach the ground.

Some races are built to make you feel accomplished.

Frontline OCR was built to find out what happens when that feeling disappears.

When the weight gets heavier. When the obstacles stop cooperating. When the vest becomes something you have to earn with every step. When quitting would be completely understandable—but no longer acceptable.

This course was never built purely for the sake of completing obstacles, but rather for the sake of completing you.

It was built for the ones willing to suffer for something bigger than a medal. The ones who understand honor, sacrifice, and commitment aren’t words printed on a shirt. They’re promises kept when walking away would be easier.

Frontline athletes don’t need the mission softened.

They were built different.
