Spearheading the release docket of Illegal Art’s reboot is Myth Math, the new musical project of label founder Matthew S, who previously released music as Oh Astro and ran label operations anonymously as Philo T. Farnsworth. The ‘Tongues’ EP picks up where Illegal Art left off, blending samples with more live instrumentation and original composition than ever before.

“Doing sample-based music has meaning in and of itself ... but I wanted to do something that had more of a literal meaning, and so I drfited more and more towards songs.”

On the Beginnings podcast, writer and performer Andy Beckerman asks well-known and on-their-way-up comedians, musicians, writers, artists and thinkers about their earliest creative acts, their formative childhood experiences, and how they’ve developed both creatively and emotionally over the years. Beginnings is part therapy, part philosophy and almost all fascinating.

was a true honor to chat with Matthew S of @illegalartlabel and @mythmath_ about the label's re-animation, and about his own music-making, specifically a transition from experimental sounds to slightly more traditional ones

(though i think the Myth Math tunes, which are found on the new EP 'Tongues', are still delightfully idiosyncratic, even though they have lyrics and melodies and such)

visit ienjoymusic dot net for the full interview. bonus: there's more chat about Twenty One Pilots than you might expect

This is the full track, provisionally titled, "2-6 Avgvstvs" (the day I began writing it); it is nearly complete; all I need are the lyrics and then to record the vocals. LEAVE A LINE OR TWO OF LYRICS IN THE COMMENTS AND ILL WORK THEM IN #magnvstalsma #magnvsmusic #rainbows #lyricsinthecomments #doublerainbow
