Clayton has fewer volunteers than any of our surrounding shelters. That means these dogs depend on YOU. There aren't 1,000 volunteers working behind the scenes (LifeLine). There aren't 600 employees at Clayton There aren't even 25 volunteers helping these dogs at Clayton. And there are only a handful of employees. There aren't hundreds of foster homes waiting to step up when a rescue agrees to save a dog. Not ONE local rescue pulled a dog this week. Last week, only ONE did. We don't have the help that other shelters have. But what we DO have is heart, determination, and an incredible amount of love for these dogs and Yβ™‘U Clayton didn't create this problem. People did. Across Georgia, abandonment, irresponsible ownership, and failure to spay and neuter have created a crisis that shelters and volunteers are left to face. And there's something else that needs to be said, even if it's uncomfortable. Clayton uses a euthanasia method commonly called β€œheart stick,” an injection directly into the heart. It's not pretty. It's heartbreaking. But looking away won't save these dogs.
