SUBURB EATS — COLLINGWOOD EDITION 🥪

I’m no expert on this side of town, but here’s a snapshot of places I’ve tried around Collingwood and the Smith Street strip.

Before the suburb police arrive: there’s some Fitzroy overlap. I’m grouping the area by how I wander around eating, so let me live 😂

Plenty of interesting flavours and different concepts here, although some prices left me wondering whether the food justified the spend.

Highest to lowest, based on my visits:

1. Zareh — 8.5/10 | Middle Eastern flavours
2. Jim’s Tavern — 8.5/10 | Charred meat platters
3. Falco Bakery — 8.2/10 | Bread does wonders
4. Stefanino Panino e Vino — 8/10 | Easy-eating panini
5. Shimbashi Soba — 8/10 | Chicken rice comfort
6. Carlitos — 8/10 | Green goddess chicken
7. Easeys — 7.7/10 | Rooftop burger nostalgia
8. Hi Fi by Terror Twilight — 7.5/10 | Tuna melt introduction
9. Shop Ramen — 7.5/10 | Clear, rich broth
10. Wabi Sabi Salon — 7.5/10 | Sichuan chicken pick
11. Good Days — 7.5/10 | Modern pho
12. Commis — 7.5/10 | Chicken-salt popcorn
13. Chiaki — 7/10 | Ochazuke breakfast
14. Smith & Deli — 7/10 | Vegan sandwich variety
15. JollyGood — 6.5/10 | Steak over burger
16. Nabie — 6.5/10 | Bulgogi benny
17. Slowpoke Lounge & Lookout — 6.5/10 | Views over burger
18. Not So Sushi — 6.5/10 | Creative, sauce-heavy rolls
19. Pincho Disco — 6.5/10 | Potatoes stole it
20. N. Lee Bakery — 6/10 | BBQ chicken roll

Zareh stood out for its flavours and quality. Jim’s first meat platter was excellent, although the next was closer to 6.5/10. Falco and Carlitos showed how much the bread can make a sandwich.

These scores reflect the dishes I ordered, and some visits were a while ago. Full thoughts in the slides.

welcome back home to vietnamese dishes you may not have tried - the cold cut banh mi and specifically from the best to get it in the city📍N Lee Bakery. we know how good a roast crackling pork banh mi is, but it’s now time to try the OG banh mi combo - deli pork meats slathered in butter, mayo and pate, you’ll slowly yet surely be integrating into St Albans and Footscray after a few of these 😭🔥 @n.leebakery
