Now that I’ve had some time to reflect on what I witnessed yesterday, I have some thoughts.
.
.
.
I mentioned this to a few people afterwards, but the 2026 IHSA 3A State Championship baseball game I covered yesterday was hands down the best game of baseball I’ve ever seen with my own eyes at ANY level. It had everything. Name something, it happened.

On top of that, to have the opportunity to cover my alma mater on the grandest stage of Illinois high school baseball was such a blessing. For what it’s worth, this team and the players on it are special in their own right. I didn’t watch all 42 games they played this season, and I never attended a practice. But from what I did see, it’s evident how much these young men care for the game and each other. They’re tough as nails and they trusted themselves to make plays when their numbers were called. That’s all you can really ask of any high school athlete.

They brought THS Baseball to new heights and I’m so happy for the players, coaches, administration, and fans that got to be a part of this incredible ride. I’m also thankful that I was welcomed with open arms to cover this team and was able to create some lifelong memories. I guess this is how people fall in love with their “jobs”.

With one full year of covering the beat for Triad sports under my belt, I’m more excited than ever for what’s to come. If this year was just the tip of the iceberg, then I can’t imagine what’s next.

Congratulations to the Triad Knights for earning 2nd Place in Class 3A Baseball, and I look forward to keeping up with this senior class and each class after them in their athletic careers.
