In basketball, that first step isn’t always straight ahead. When a defender is in front of you, you have to attack the opening.

Here, we used band resistance to work a diagonal first step toward the defender’s outside hip, followed by 3–4 steps of sprint acceleration.

Get your shoulder past their hip, then accelerate through the opening. Giving our speed work a basketball feel. 🏀💨

Attack downhill. Get the edge. GO.

🚨 SPEED STOP ESCAPES ✅

➖Reps on reps on reps. Bigger than just being sharp on in-game movement, footwork, and shot-making is mentally acknowledging which misses are big ones and moving on and being ready to shoot to make the next one. 💯

➖A lot of players allow their last shot to impact the next one (negatively) if the last one was a miss. We always say Steph isn’t thinking about his last miss when the next one is in the air, he’s to busy making sure it goes in. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about quality attempts and staying up in the percentages. ‼️

➖Checkout Nick Smith (Trinity HS - 2027) shooting through speed stop escapes for separation after turning the corner and continuing to stay up in the percentages on the shot count. Our goal is 4/6 or better, we live with 4/7, and 4/8 or worse can’t happen. 🔥

➖There’s still pressure to make more than you take! But there’s mental acknowledgment that a miss is not the end of the world! There’s still the next play. 🏀

The SB Way! 🖤🏀🪣

Train with intent, but make sure you have fun while doing it. The environment and culture we create are more important than any physical goal these student-athletes are chasing. When they feel supported, challenged, and excited to work, the results will follow. #ɪᴛsᴊᴜsᴛᴡᴏʀᴋ

WE TRAIN TOGETHER. WE TRAIN DIFFERENT.

As summer winds down, the season is starting for some while the off-season is just beginning for others.

That’s where programming matters.

We balance our athletes based on where THEY are in their season. Our in-season athletes shouldn’t be training like our off-season athletes. Different phases. Different workloads. Different goals.

Same standard. Same work.

Train the athlete. Respect the phase. Trust the process.

Message of the day:

It’s EASY to be mediocre, and it’s HARD to be successful.

But the hard part eventually becomes routine… and that routine becomes the ingredient to success.

Work until hard becomes easy.
