These teens just showed us how powerful education can be. They learned about menstrual health, broke stigmas, and gained confidence to speak openly. Boys and girls, together. That’s real empowerment. 🌟

As part of our PAD A GIRL outreach, we organized a series of engaging activities to educate and empower our students about menstruation. Here’s what we did👇👇👇

Slide 1-5 :Survey Session📝
We conducted pre-session and post-session surveys to gauge the knowledge our participants had about menstruation before and after our session.

The pre-session survey helped us understand their baseline knowledge, while the post-session survey measured the knowledge gained after our teaching.

Slide 6-10: Pamphlet Session📖
We distributed informative pamphlets covering essential topics such as:
📍What is menstruation?
📍How does menstruation occur?
📍Menstrual hygiene and care
📍Vaginal anatomy and health
📍How to use sanitary products (pads, tampons, etc.)
📍Tips for managing menstrual cramps and other symptoms

Slide 11- 17: Interactive Session👩‍🏫👨‍🎓👩‍🎓
Our participants engaged in an open and engaging Q&A session, where they asked questions and clarified doubts. Both boys and girls actively participated, and some even volunteered to demonstrate how to use sanitary products.

*Why it matters💪⁉️*
These sessions matter because they provide a comprehensive approach to menstrual education. The surveys help us measure the impact of our efforts, the pamphlets provide accurate information, and the interactive session fosters a culture of openness and support without fear or shame. By including both boys and girls in this conversation, we’re breaking down stigmas and promoting empathy and understanding. This initiative empowers our participants with knowledge, confidence, and a supportive community.

On World Menstrual Hygiene day, Wednesday May 28th which was our pad a girl program, Dr. Fatima Odusote @centreforadolescenthealth lit up the room with real talk on menstrual materials—educating, empowering, and equipping young queens with the knowledge and products they need to thrive.

From period panties to cloth pads, tampons, and disposal pedal bins, she covered every option to ensure these young queens have choices that suit their comfort and lifestyle.

Slide 1, 2, 3: Tampons: Inserted into the vagina to absorb menstrual flow. Convenient for swimming and high-impact activities, discreet.

Slide 4: Menstrual Cups: Reusable cups that collect menstrual flow. Eco-friendly, cost-effective, and can be worn for up to 12 hours.

Slide 5: Sanitary Pads: Disposable pads worn in underwear to absorb menstrual flow. Easy to use, widely available, and suitable for light to heavy flow.

Slide 6: Cloth Pads: Reusable, washable pads made of fabric. Eco-friendly, cost-effective, and breathable.

Slide 7: Reusable Period Panties: Underwear with built-in absorbent layers. Comfortable, eco-friendly, and can be worn alone or with additional protection.

Slide 8, 9: Disposable Period Panties: Underwear with pockets for disposable pads. Convenient, easy to use, and provides extra protection.

Slide 10, 11: Panty Liners: Thin, absorbent pads for light flow or spotting. Discreet, easy to use, and suitable for daily use.

Slide 12, 13:Pedal Bin: hands-free hygienic disposal bin for sanitary products. Convenient, promotes cleanliness, and reduces odor.

Teaching kids about menstrual products helps break the stigma surrounding menstruation, promotes menstrual health awareness, and empowers them to manage their periods with confidence. It’s about giving them the freedom to choose what works for them, the knowledge to understand their bodies, and the support to thrive in every cycle. Because menstrual health is self-love, and every young queen deserves to feel seen, safe, and strong. 👑🩸✨

The Pad a Girl outreach was a heartwarming success, and we couldn’t have done it without YOU!

Thanks to Dr Fatima @centreforadolescenthealth , Nurse Mirabel @withnneka , and your support, we reached amazing young girls with sanitary pads, education, and encouragement. 🌸

We reached 73 students (43 girls and 30 boys) with open, empowering conversations about:
📍Why we involve boys in menstruation
📍Menstruation & the menstrual cycle
📍Types of hygienic menstrual materials
📍Menstrual hygiene vs. unhygienic practices
📍Menstrual Stigma
📍Myths about menstruation
📍Building confidence as a girl

We’re not just giving pads — we’re restoring dignity, breaking silence, and building futures. Because every girl deserves to feel seen, safe, and supported. 💖

Abraham’s dedication as a volunteer is a powerful reminder of why the Pad-A-Girl project exists — because no girl should have to choose between dignity and basic needs.

This project is about more than pads; it’s about empowering girls with confidence, hope, and the freedom to chase their dreams.

Thank you, Abraham, for being a voice for change and champion for every girl’s right to thrive.

Mirabel Nneka Aifuobhokhan is a first-class Nurse and Midwife from Madonna University, Nigeria. Certified in Basic Life Support, she’s spent the last couple of years doing everything from delivering babies to calming nervous relatives—and occasionally, their blood pressure.

Whether in hospitals, IDP camps, or health outreaches, she shows up with skill, heart, and just the right amount of sarcasm.

She’s also on a mission to make period talk less awkward and more empowering, equipping young girls with facts (not fear).

When she’s not saving lives, she’s writing about them- crafting stories that explore health, hope, and everything in between, proving that sometimes words are the best medicine.
