California schools spent nearly 96% of their Proposition 28 arts education funds during the 2023–24 school year, but approximately $34.4 million went unspent, according to a recent report from EdSource.

Proposition 28 provides funding to expand arts and music education in California public schools. With unspent funds deducted from future allocations, thoughtful planning and timely spending are essential to ensuring these resources support students.

Arts education includes music, visual arts, dance, and theatre. Every dollar is an opportunity to give students greater access to meaningful arts learning experiences.

Let’s continue advocating for strong arts education programs and making the most of the resources available to our schools!

For the first time since the Arts Education for All Act was introduced in 2021, the legislation now has a Senate companion bill!

As part of the Arts Education Alliance, NDEO is proud to support this legislation. By recognizing the arts as essential, this bill would help address critical gaps, aiming to:

✨ Improve arts programming in caregiving and early education
✨ Provide support for arts access in K–12 schools
✨ Integrate arts education into afterschool and summer programs
✨ Prioritize professional development for arts educators
✨ Increase the accessibility of data on access to arts education
✨ Facilitate arts education within the justice system
✨ Support the use of arts education in reentry and recidivism-reduction efforts

Please join us in showing support! Contact your members of Congress and encourage them to co-sponsor the Arts Education for All Act.
