Autotuned Oromo Bops 🌳 *NO AI* Shagooyyee is a traditional Hararge Oromo partner dance where the man guides his partner rhythmically from side to side while the woman loosens her neck and whips her hair. It’s accompanied by “Gomorsa” or “goomaraa” a deep lionlike growl. @nah1l1 sent me a lot of inspiration for this month’s show on @radioalhara and the Oromo music well is so DEEP. Barely scratched the surface, will definitely have to revisit. Here’s a few samples of music from Oromia and a message from Nahili at the end about Oromo music and Oromia Artist: Nasraa Yusuuf Song: Shaggoyyee #Oromo #oromia Sinboonee Addunyaa - Itti Cabsi “Itti Cabsi” in Oromo means something like “smash through it”, a direct commentary on the repression of Oromos by the Ethiopian state. Addisu Furgasa - Iaangicha Biiftuu Abdalla & Jamaal Usmaa’il - Abudoo This group is wearing traditional Oromo Kelemshisha, including one woman who just seems happy to be there lol. last week’s workshop was everything. 🤍 beautiful light, the best energy, and a room full of photographers who came ready to learn, experiment, ask questions, and create. and then there was @nah1l1. stunningly beautiful inside and out and an absolute muse on set. these were some of the first frames we shot together, and I’m obsessed! feminine, raw, emotive- exactly the kind of work that makes me fall in love with photography all over again. so excited to share more from this day!! if you’d like to hear about future workshops before they’re announced publicly, send me a message and i’ll add you to the waitlist. 🤍
