A night in New York supporting an organization that does such important work. @themiamiproject

There are two women in my family who have experienced paralysis: my mother and my grandmother — two of the strongest women I’ve ever known. I wanted to share a small part of their stories.

I didn’t really understand what a stroke was until this year.

In March, my mom suffered a severe stroke that left her paralyzed on her right side. From that point on, I became her caretaker and watched her fight incredibly hard in a stroke rehabilitation facility to regain her ability to walk.

My grandmother became paraplegic after a car accident when she was a young woman. It can happen to anyone, at any time. But she never let it stop her. She raised five children and later became an instrumental part of my life and the person I’ve become.

Both of these women have shown me what strength really looks like.

It’s because of organizations like @themiamiproject that this kind of work is possible. Helping people walk again, work again, travel with greater ease, and regain pieces of the independence they thought they had lost.

I went to a fashion week party with @nahosan8a and we realized it was in the same hotel we crashed into a few months ago and had a photoshoot in the lobby :-)
