textile tactics: crafting culture captured by @wabberjocky for @newyorktextilemonth 🧶

i feel so lucky to have curated and moderated this exhibition and panel featuring the brilliant textile artists and fashion designers that are sade, mahima, and naima — and luckier to call them my friends. i’m so appreciative of their willingness to share their arts and insights with the community 💐

also gratified by how seamless @bklynlibrary for arts & culture makes actualizing my programmatic visions as an independent curator. this was such a collaborative effort so thank you to the (aforementioned) hands and minds that were involved in putting this together.

it’s always an honor to bring together talented curious individuals so thank you to everyone who came and engaged with the works and the geniuses behind them ⭐️

10 Lafayette Ave, 2nd Floor, Brooklyn, NY

Join us at the Library for Arts & Culture for a hybrid exhibition and panel discussion, highlighting three textile artists and designers whose work shapes and drives culture. Curated and moderated by Chyna Cassell, the program will feature works from Sade Mims of Edas, Naima Dobbs of Nailoh Knits, and fashion designer, Mahima “Palika” Sirikulthada.

The program will open with guests engaging with selected exhibited works throughout the space, followed by a presentation of Mahima’s "i can’t cross my legs, can you?" fashion film. Chyna will moderate the panel, which will focus on the artists’ respective practices and methods, and the cultural context surrounding their works. The evening will conclude with a brief mingling session with beverages and light refreshments.

Been in the lab for an eternity and excited to finally share a peek at 1 of many new styles for @nailohknits coming 🔜!

Thank u to everyone who expressed interest over the past year. The luv held me down in a big way. Stay tuned ఌ

49!!!…2020 New Jersey, Atlanta, Madrid and my forever home…

First pic is when my looooongtime best friend and artist extraordinaire @asherald had @joseyandthe and I come to freezing cold jersey and style a shoot that she would later paint..😳😩🙌🏽😍😍😍😍

Back home to Atlanta where my sweet sweet creative kids made me a card and Naima @nailohknits crocheted me that amazing bear for Mother’s Day..🙏🏽😍😍😍

Next is @na1marenee when she got the amazing opportunity to study abroad at NYU Madrid until the stupid ass pandemic hit and I had to fly her out of there like she was escaping the plague..oh wait..🙄😩🙏🏽❤️

After that is the dream crew when we got to be a part of an amazing Dove campaign celebrating US..🙌🏽🕺🏽💃🏾❤️

The next pic has to be the greatest day, aside from the birth of my children, when I got the keys to my DREAMHOUSE!!!! You see Ms Johnson in the back waving as I’m cheesing soooo hard with her old keys in my hand..Y’all, I’m talking a literal dream come true. I can barely describe it…it’s another reason for this party so that you all can step inside a tangible dream come true and get some of the goooood vibes and take em home with you..🙌🏽🙏🏽🎉
Next is me loading up the uhaul and saying good bye to that part of my life and hello to my future…🙌🏽

Then you have my mommy lounging in the pool and that was/is surreal to watch her float happily after soooo many years of hard work and making us who we are today…🙏🏽
And lastly is me in some random shyte as usual that I found as I was cleaning up..haha!!
