Building dogs that think, not just dogs that follow 🐾

Today’s Focused Dog Course stepped things up a level…

We started by sharpening up heelwork and the stop whistle — creating that solid foundation of control and clarity. From there, we progressed onto the hunt whistle, introduced the turn whistle, and put it all into practice with walk-up retrieves 👌

We finished with some place/settle work to bring the arousal back down — because a well-trained dog isn’t just switched on… they can switch off too.

This is what real-life training looks like: control, engagement, and clear communication at every stage.

Tiggy can be fairly hard work, but my goodness does this face make it all feel SO worth it 🥹🧡

This was also his first time seeing wild deer 🦌… and he could not have cared less if I’m honest 😂

I definitely get some odd looks for walking around with a parrot in a backpack 😂 but he absolutely loves seeing everything, people watching and preening the sunshine ☀️

This was Tiggy’s first time seeing deer too 🦌 although Nala has seen them many times, it took some serious training for her to stop chasing them 😬 but her ‘down’ command is pretty solid now 💞

This course is designed as an introduction to gundog work and using gundog training techniques to help teach pet dogs how to be steady, neutral and engage with their owners.
