There are teas distinguished by their origin, others by their craftsmanship, and a select few that stand apart because of the unrepeatable story they hold within them.

Slasha, located in Umiam, Meghalaya, in northeastern India, represents a particularly intriguing expression of contemporary artisanal tea. It is a project that moves away from conventional production models and embraces something increasingly rare in the world of tea: the exclusivity of origin, meticulous craftsmanship, and the value of the unrepeatable.

Its natural surroundings, shaped by rolling hills, humidity, mist, and lush vegetation, provide a distinctive setting for the development of its identity. A terroir whose expression deserves to be discovered slowly, without haste.

What makes Slasha particularly compelling is its production philosophy: hand-plucking, artisanal processing, careful attention to small batches, and deliberately limited production. This is not a tea conceived to supply mass markets. Its identity is built upon a smaller scale, the care devoted to each harvest, and the individuality of every lot.

Its approach to organic practices, respect for the raw material, and artisanal intervention reflect a different understanding of tea production: less volume, greater attention to origin; less standardization, more identity.

In terms of luxury, Slasha brings us closer to a concept that goes far beyond price or sophisticated presentation. It embodies the *Luxury of Rarity* — the luxury of scarcity, of something that cannot be endlessly reproduced or found in every collection.

As a Tea Master, I find this proposition particularly meaningful because it invites us to experience tea from a different perspective: not merely as a beverage, but as an expression of territory, nature, artistry, time, and craftsmanship.

Not every exceptional tea needs large production volumes to achieve distinction. Sometimes, its greatest attribute lies precisely in what cannot be offered in abundance.

Slasha does not represent the luxury of mass production, but rather the privilege of discovering an origin

A moment from a tea-sourcing journey through Darjeeling with my son and our good friend Nalin Modha.

We had just climbed from Bagdogra Airport, around 126 metres above sea level, to Darjeeling at approximately 2,050 metres. Waiting for us was this extraordinary view of Kanchenjunga—rising to 8,586 metres and the third-highest mountain in the world.

No photograph quite captures the scale of it, but this comes close. A very special beginning to our time in Darjeeling.

Hay tés que simplemente nos invitan a detenernos por un momento. Estos tés de Umiam, Meghalaya, tienen algo especial; una expresión aromática y compleja, en la que las notas se revelan poco a poco, acompañadas de una delicada sensación cremosa que cautiva. Lo más fascinante es que, a medida que la taza cambia de temperatura, también transforma su expresión y nos permite descubrir nuevos matices. Y eso es precisamente lo que más me enamora de estos tés, su capacidad de despertar recuerdos, evocar lugares y, durante unos minutos, transportarnos hacia otros mundos sensoriales.

There are teas that simply invite us to pause for a moment. These teas from Umiam, Meghalaya, have something truly special: an aromatic and complex expression in which the notes gradually reveal themselves, accompanied by a delicate creamy sensation that captivates the senses. What fascinates me most is that, as the temperature of the cup changes, its expression transforms as well, allowing us to discover new nuances. And that is precisely what I love most about these teas: their ability to awaken memories, evoke places, and, for a few moments, transport us to other sensory worlds.

कुछ चाय ऐसी होती हैं जो हमें बस एक पल के लिए ठहरने का निमंत्रण देती हैं। उमियाम, मेघालय की इन चायों में कुछ खास है; एक सुगंधित और जटिल अभिव्यक्ति, जिसमें विभिन्न सुगंध और स्वाद धीरे-धीरे सामने आते हैं, साथ ही एक नाज़ुक मलाईदार एहसास मन को मोह लेता है। सबसे आकर्षक बात यह है कि जैसे-जैसे चाय का तापमान बदलता है, वैसे-वैसे उसकी अभिव्यक्ति भी बदलती जाती है और हमें नए सूक्ष्म आयाम खोजने का अवसर मिलता है। और यही वह बात है जो मुझे इन चायों के बारे में सबसे अधिक पसंद है: इनकी वह क्षमता, जो यादों को जगाती है, स्थानों की अनुभूति कराती है और कुछ क्षणों के लिए हमें दूसरी संवेदनात्मक दुनियाओं में ले जाती है। ✨️✨️✨️

Poznajcie @slasha.in , młodą markę herbacianą z Umiam w Meghalaya, w północno-wschodnich Indiach.

Plantacja została założona na terenach, wcześniej nietkniętych komercyjną uprawą, dzięki czemu ogród rozwija się w wyjątkowym, naturalnym środowisku.

Slasha wyróżnia jednak przede wszystkim niezwykłe podejście do czasu zbioru.Każda partia jest kształtowana nie tylko przez sezon i warunki pogodowe, ale również przez konkretny dzień, a nawet godzinę, o której zbierane są liście. Zamiast zacierać te różnice poprzez mieszanie zbiorów, Slasha zachowuje ich indywidualny charakter, pozwalając każdej partii opowiedzieć własną historię miejsca i czasu.

Szczególnym przykładem jest Brahma Muhurta – zbiór rozpoczynający się jeszcze przed wschodem słońca. W tradycji indyjskiej to wyjątkowy, spokojny czas przed świtem, kojarzony z uważnością, klarownością i nowym początkiem. Liście są wówczas ręcznie zbierane pośród porannych mgieł Umiam, jeszcze zanim pojawi się pierwsze światło.

To właśnie takie podejście sprawia, że każdy zbiór Slasha jest niepowtarzalny.
