Scarfies unite! Moments from the launch of Club Les Carrés. I started CLC because I believed our scarves deserved a gallery. What I didn’t fully anticipate was what would happen when the collectors came together. Scarves really are a common language. Different ages, different places, different stories — and suddenly a room full of people who had so much to talk about.

That may have been my favourite part of the evening. Club Les Carrés is a digital gallery celebrating the art of the scarf — designed by a collector, for collectors, with the eye of a designer.

If scarves are your thing too, come join us. 🧡 Club Les Carrés is available on the App Store and Google Play.

SAME but DIFFERENT (Equinox)
OPEN ACTIONS PERFORMANCE ART: @open_action

WHEN: Saturday, Sept 20th, 4:30 PM
WHERE: LIME BAY PARK Kimta Rd. 48°25'42"N 123°23'1"W

Same But Different (Equinox)
is an international day for public actions for freedom for all peoples. Each year on the Equinoxes, (~20.03. and 22.09.) the duration of day and night is approximately equal around the globe. In this spirit of cosmic equality, the event serves as a global connection for people performing together in public spaces. This sharing of time and space brings us closer together as a temporary (global) community by encouraging non-violent expressions for locally specific conditions through performance art. Everyone is welcome to participate with openness and in solidarity, embracing and embodying diversity whilst acknowledging each other’s individual circumstances, difficulties, and conflicts. For this purpose, everyone is welcome to join and/or organize a group performance.

The following conditions should be fulfilled if there are no external restrictions:

- The event should take place as close as possible to the dates of the Equinox(es)

- The event encourages performative group work with at least two people performing together

- The event should take place in a public space.

- The event is open so offers the possibility for everyone interested to get involved

When you wear a hat big enough to guarantee personal space… but I clearly didn’t get the memo! 😉👒 #peopleinmylife #styleover60 #stylevoice

The long view in a newly completed home for a young family in Vancouver. The typical lot in Vancouver constraints the buildable envelope to set front and rear yards. The design of windows to capture the long views can help to extend the eye and living experience beyond physical walls and site setbacks giving a reference to daily and seasonal patterns of the sun and nature.

I just landed in Boston after taking the redeye home from @altsummit, and even though I’m exhausted (and a little groggy from Ativan), my heart is so full. Gabby Blair — @designmom — has created a very special place filled with some of the most generous and creative people on the planet. I’ve now attended Alt five times, and each time I get something different from it. The first year I attended, I was still deep in my public relations career, but Alt gave me the confidence to know that someday I would leap and not look back. The second time, I was focused on learning the secrets of the social media geniuses, and tried to take some of that and apply it to my just-started interior design business. The third time sealed my love for Alt when I found Mithra — a quick-witted writer, vintage expert, and reluctant (but brilliant) stylist; Brooke — a calm and thoughtful friend whose interior designs are restful and beautiful; and Tina — an architect-interior designer-Mayor -of-all-rooms-she-enters who has the best laugh I’ve ever heard. We had an instant bond. In 2017, we were lucky enough to find Petra, the funniest, fastest-talking Finn who is a textile designer about to explode in the home goods market. And finally, this year brought Nancy — an instant friend, a gracious host, and an uber-talented designer who shared some of her top secret sources with those of us who were lucky enough to get to know her.
Because of Alt, my life changed in 2012, and continues to each year I attend. I’ve left a 20-year PR career to pursue design and open a small business. I’ve gained confidence to help grow that business. I’ve learned that I’m never going to be a social media mogul/global influencer and that that’s ok, because I want to know and serve my own community really, really well. But mostly, it’s these people. These people are everything.
Because of Alt, I have (at least) five more women in my life who I could call or go to for anything — business or personal. They are generous, wise souls, and my life wouldn’t be as full without them in it. Thank you for that, Gabby.
