MARLIN, 2008, 50”H X 40”W, Vitreous acrylic on museum paper. I painted this work with the infamous word artist ERNEST HEMINGWAY in mind. He was crazy regarding Marlin fishing from his Key West, Florida home.

We LOVED seeing people come to our debut exhibition - purchasing, connecting, sharing, and spreading creativity.

Sitting with new & old friends amongst our art was a true thrill. Big thanks to Maison10, all of our artists, and those who showed support!

Meet Nan Van Ryzin•
Nan Van Ryzin is renowned for her vibrant and expansive abstract canvases. Her art, featuring thick, lush acrylic paints, captures the raw energy of natural forces with a style reminiscent of water’s unpredictable flow. Each piece is meticulously planned yet executed with explosive vitality. Art critic O. Devan praised her work: “Nan’s works first astound you by their size and lushness of color and then grab you for their quality. I stood in front of her canvases for several minutes and then walked away. I returned.”

Nan and her artwork are a powerful part of Urban Art Creative Collective. Discover more about her and her art via the link in our bio.

The Teachings of our Emotions

It’s always the events and experiences that shape us up as people. Sometimes it’s not a surprise that God does things to give us a wake up call. Especially when it comes to any type of action, besides our doings; keep in mind our emotions on what we have is what also helps learn more about ourselves. Good or bad, it is all apart of the learning process on what we are still assimilating. Whatever it is that still aggravates and triggers, or when feeling such heavy weight of our fears, it’s not a surprise that there is still more to be tamed, to be healed and to know more about ourselves

Thrilled to be participating in this exciting group show at Art Gotham in Tribeca, New York. I’ll be showcasing a painting from my new geometric glacier series which are acrylic, mixed media works on canvas. Check out some of the inspiration photos from Antarctica, which sparked my excitement for this medium. Hope to see you at the opening reception this Thursday from 6 to 9 PM. Congratulations to all the artists involved and a big thank you to Kimberly Salib, Executive Director, Art Gotham, for the opportunity to showcase my work!!

An immense thank you to all my friends who came out to the closing reception of “The Red Show” last night at Saint Mark’s Arts! It was a fabulous evening of art, conversation, and music (scroll to see a cool performance by @spacemachine1 )! Slides 6 & 7 show the original versions of my two photographs so that the glare is not in the way: “Sophie Powers Performing at Mercury Lounge” (2024) and “Red Car Following Rain Storm - Williamsburg, Brooklyn” (2024).

And keep scrolling through to see all of the other incredible artworks by the epic artists who are part of the @saintmarksarts community!
