I’ll have a scoop of home please

A question that I give more priority to lately is “what fills up my soul that isn’t my profession?”

Being a very driven, hard working and strict (on myself) creative I would often feel guilty for putting time and energy toward things that have little or nothing to do with dance. The expectations and “industry standards” are no help with that either. The more I grow the more I am aware that the notion of that is silly. An empty cup won’t really quench your thirst or anyone else’s for that matter. So let’s give ourselves moments of space that nourish and nurture. Big or small, moments out of grind and hustle will indirectly/directly elevate exactly the parts that we feverishly give 150% to.

I’m aware that I’m speaking from a privileged position of being able to take time to do all that but even this privileged position was hard earned and won’t last forever. We go through seasons. And I’m excited about the season of putting my head down, locking in and growing amongst the uncertainties and challenges of life. But I know that I will thrive because I do listen to the rhythm of the emptying and refilling of my cup.
