$If you look at the back of your phone, you find a tiny glass window at the top. Behind this is a lens whose size would be dwarfed by a contact lens. Using that lens we can still get amazing photos. Given that, one might ask why anyone needs these old, often heavy, delicate, and, relative to a cell phone lens, massive lenses from old 35mm cameras... or even new, often much larger and very expensive ones, still being made? uhhhhhh ... I don't know! For me at least, I can count on one hand the number of photos posted here taken with a phone, despite an old iphone 4s being the kick that sent me headlong into using dedicated cameras. I loved the iPhone photos but, when it came to making better photos, I found that I could buy a used Canon DSLR for a fraction of the price of a new iPhone. I got a lens for it by buying a much older Canon for $10. Lenses at the time were often cheaper than today, but I still can find a decent DSLR and lens for under $100. My most frequently used camera, a Fuji x-m1, is tiny and cost me $50. This was taken with a kowa lens I paid $10 for. it's probably not a great photo but since I had no adapter for it, I just held the lens in front of the camera and tried it out. I can superglue the lens to a metal adapter when I get it to the right length and be off and shooting. @nardonmisc is a very cool photographer and inveterate lens and camera hacker, He turned me onto Kowa optics.
