Good times lemme tell ya. ‘89-‘90 i start going to shows. And they were some of the best. Hepcat & Jump With Joey at The Country Club & King King were not only influential, they initiated enduring friendships that I’m forever grateful for. This past weekend with The Slackers was a fun reminder of that. Maximum respect & love to the singers & players that created the best scene & soundtrack a youth in this mad world could ever ask for. Greg Lee & David Fuentes everyone misses you.

Chegamos à última categoria do 6º Prêmio Skataplá.

Rest in power!

=======================

[ENG] We’ve reached the final category of the 6th Skataplá Awards. The Terry Hall Lifetime Achievement Award goes to @officialhepcat.

Formed in 1989 in California, the band released their debut album "Out of Nowhere" in 1993 through Moon Ska Records. Since then, they’ve released four studio albums and one live album, always delivering a melodious blend of ska, soul, rocksteady, reggae, jazz, and R&B — a sound that only Hepcat can create. Their music helped guide many young fans of skapunk/skacore toward a more traditional ska style.

Last year, the band lost one of its vocalists, the legendary @gregro01, who passed away from a brain aneurysm at the age of 53. He is also honored in this year’s Skataplá Awards artwork. Greg Lee shared lead vocals with @alexdesertwashere, who now continues the journey alongside the remaining band members. The last lyrics Greg wrote — just a week before his passing — can be heard in "My Last Star", released this week by @theslackersband.

This is Skataplá’s tribute to the legacy of Greg Lee and Hepcat. Rest in power!

David Hillyard, an ace amongst jokers. I used to bootleg this guy playing sax w his band The Donkey Show. Years later he’d become the sax player of Hepcat. Years later later I’d move to NY and his rock steady band would play my taqueria’s 1yr anniversary. Tonight, we toasted & remembered Greg Lee, Dave Fuentes and Angie (Dave’s mom) Thankful for these moments w my friend. #RestInPowerGregLee #RIPDaveFuentes #RIPAngie. #QueDescanseEnPowerGregLee #QDEPDaveFuentes #QDEPAngie

Still so hard to accept the loss and passing of our own @gregro01 … we shared the stage and life together for so many years with @officialhepcat . So many memories, laughs and love. Thanks you for being part of our lives.
