What can we learn from schools achieving remarkable academic results?

At @nashvilleclassical East, third-grade reading proficiency rose from 40% four years ago to 81% this year, placing the school in the top 3% of Tennessee schools for third-grade ELA achievement.

Scarlett Family Foundation CEO Tara Scarlett recently shared her thoughts in The @tennesseannews on Nashville Classical’s academic gains and what its success can teach us about educational opportunity:

“Every Tennessee child deserves access to a school that challenges them, believes in them and prepares them for the future. The stronger our schools become, and the more opportunities parents have to choose the school that best fits their child, the stronger Tennessee’s future will be.”

In just four years, @nashvilleclassical Charter School East more than doubled its third-grade reading proficiency rate and is now among Tennessee’s top-performing schools for third-grade ELA. So, what changed? School leadership reimagined their K–5 literacy approach, investing heavily in teacher coaching, building students’ background knowledge and vocabulary, strengthening reading fluency, prioritizing writing and putting great books back at the center of instruction. The result? A dramatic improvement in reading outcomes — and a playbook other schools can learn from and adapt. ➡️ Be sure to read the story at the link in our bio. #TNCharters #ServingStudents
