While not the result we wanted, this week saw the first game this season featuring the full Skull's XI squad playing together. The first innings contained some excellent bowling and fielding performances, with Harry making his season debut with a wicket at in incredibly economically 4 runs an over, Elliott bowling out one of the openers with an absolute peach of a delivery, a beautiful catch by Elliott at long on from Matt's bowling, an a run out as a result from Ewan throwing it in all the way from deep extra cover. Though we needed 188 runs for the win, the Skull's were up for the challenge and went for the throat losing no wickets the entire innings and our top order all scoring 50's, highlighted by Matt's incredible strike rate of 192.31. While the Skulls came up short, it was by far their best performance of the season. UP THE SKULLS 💀🏏 MOTM: @harryzgrajewski XXXX Award: @matthewjmcdonald Silver Ball Award: @harryzgrajewski

Up against some familiar faces this week, the Skulls unfortunately weren't able to get the job done however they put on a great show lead by Nat's fantastic bowling, a stumping from Matt at keeper and David turning into prime Tendulkar and smashing 48 runs for his best ever batting performance. What better way to start off the season than by getting absolutely smashed? Despite a tough Week 2 result for the Skulls going down to Chip's Army by 140 runs, shaking off the rust of losing the second half of the summer season to rain, there were still some standout performances worth highlighting and Nat's debut as an official member of Skull's XI. Bowling in the first innings, Faisal stepped up as a valuable inclusion despite a lingering thumb injury. Quickly adapting his off-spin technique, Faisal finished up with 2 wickets and an economy of 11.00 rightfully earning him the Silver Ball Award for this week. David also picked up a wicket with Raj taking two clean catches on the outfield off deliveries from David and Faisal. In our 2nd innings chase, Matt put on a show with a rapid-fire 50 off only 24 balls, back up a half-ton he scored earlier in the day for the Mighty Golden Ducks earning him the right to wear the baggy gold for next game and Man of the Match honours. On top of that Harrison entertained with his classic swinging style, ending on a respectable 30 not out to end the innings. The first season of 2025 in the books. While most of the season was unfortunately rained out, it was marked as one our most successful campaigns yet. Now, it's time to celebrate the season by recognising the best and most improved members of the Skull's XI. While not the result we wanted, the whole team put forth a great effort against one of the stronger teams in the div. A hot day and a delayed start cause the umpire had a craving for some KFC, the first innings was highlighted by a decent partnership from Matt and Harry Z with some unfortunate wickets scattered throughout. The second innings featured some strong bowling, with great economies from opening duo Ewan and Theo, some much needed wickets and a runout from Dave, beautiful catches from Elliott and Theo, and a stellar performance from Nat in only her second game. While not our best performance, we played well despite the heat and look forward to hopefully seeing Alex return to the lineup with his lethal bowling after missing today's game due to illness.
