What is the tradition and etiquette of giving a lei? 🌺

A lei is a beautiful way to celebrate a loved one, but it’s also a meaningful way to build connection and strengthen relationships.

Whether you’re celebrating an anniversary, birthday, graduation, or another special moment, giving a lei is a heartfelt gesture — from one heart to another. 💛

Properly wearing a lei is also an important part of lei tradition. Lei ʻāʻī refers to wearing a lei around the neck, draped over the shoulders with the lei hanging evenly — half in the front and half in the back.

When presenting a lei, it may be accompanied by a gentle cheek-to-cheek kiss, a warm gesture of affection and aloha. 🌺

Every lei carries a little more than flowers — it carries meaning, connection, and aloha.

Behind the scenes of the Hawaii Hotel & Restaurant show at the Blaisdell! Chef Meghan Ellis, the first Native Hawaiian chef to be a contestant on Hell’s Kitchen with Gordan Ramsay talked about her time on the show. Food Network contestant Chef Amanda Silva wowed us all with her poi smoothies and healthy salads. Always great to see family friends including Nancy Bernal, Chef Lillian Cumic, Sheri and Sukit, Aunty Meryl & Natalie from The Orchid Lei Company 🌺

What a blessing it was celebrating all the mama’s yesterday at Mele’s Annual Mother’s Day gathering! The entire day was filled with so much aloha — laughter, hugs, stories, and the kind of joy that only comes from honoring the incredible women who pour so much love into our lives and our community.

To all of our beautiful mamas, kūpuna, aunties, and mother figures, mahalo nui loa for everything you do. Your strength, your guidance, your patience, and your unconditional love are the heartbeat of our ‘ohana. We see you, we appreciate you, and we celebrate you not just on Mother’s Day, but every day.

A huge mahalo as well to everyone who came out to support, to our volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, and to the families who showed up with open hearts and big smiles. Events like this remind us how blessed we are.

May the spirit of aloha continue to surround each of you in the days ahead. Mahalo nui to all our mamas and our entire ‘ohana for making this celebration so special.
