The quiet part out loud These aren’t their memories. They’re mine. I held the camera in these moments. I took the plane, the uber, the adventure. I walked these streets with friends and family members and heard the noise and laughed at the jokes. All the while at home my people were waiting. Soccer games and birthday parties, Saturday morning cartoons and play dates. All things I get to see sometimes but often miss be be present in a life with a camera in my hands. What makes these couples special enough to me to do it? They get it. They understand that these moments mean the world to me too. They see the sacrifice and the art and the joy on my face when their memories become mine. They know that my family is waiting proud of the work I do and they know that I can handle living in both worlds because they are both one to me. We aren’t celebrities, we aren’t influencers. We are artists with a passion for serving people at a really high level and teaching other artists how to do the same. Because the work life balance isn’t a big enough goal. Legacy, love, faith, and a full life filled with the biggest and smallest of memories is so much more to pursue.

This photo took two years to take. I stood on the balcony above this grid of cement and turf two years ago and day dreamed about this image and then do what most photographers do when they have a good idea… I got back to work and forgot about it. There was going to be too many variables. It couldn’t be sunny, the shadows wouldn’t line up right. It couldn’t be windy, the veil wouldn’t lay right. It had to be a shorter couple to give the space scale. The couple couldn’t be jumpy about laying on the ground. They’d need to be athletic enough to hold their head up and stay tight in the core so it didn’t look like they were laying. Meh. Chalk it up to another one of Miles’ weird ideas and get back to work… Two years later I had that couple. The right dress. The right light. Jared there with the right gear (he actually pressed the buttons on this one). And just enough time to pull it off. Was it worth the wait?
