Often times players can be over critical of themselves and have unrealistic expectations. In order to be the most mentally sound and healthy, we must be able to give ourselves credit while also consistently striving to be better moving forward.

For example, in the video the goalie was upset about the rebound control but fails to recognize he made a tough save on a tough situation for any goalie to make. What’s more, in a game situation a goalie will also have defenders and other teammates their whole are responsible for the opponents on the team around the net which means the goalie is almost losing site of the most important factor or priority here, which is MAKING THE SAVE !!!! Furthermore, don’t allow yourself to lose site of the most important aspect of the play, which is your first priority, make the save…

Yes, we can strive to be better each rep, practice, game and every time we step on the ice but we also must be able to give ourselves credit when credit is due.

In final, every situation provides an opportunity to learn and get better, and it’s up to the coach to provide a challenging environment that forces a player to challenge themselves, adapt, fail and learn how to overcome that adversity that will inevitably present itself.

Waxy getting back to basics with this simple recovery drill. Worked on a quick set of his feet stepping off his blocker post. Nice compete to finish the drill. #reigngoal #goaliecoach #tampahockey
