“The logic of the time—and one that is still held by many coaches today—was that since power is the dominant ability in javelin... power has to be trained all the time. However, my logic was different.” Tudor Bompa .

One of TTO’s brightest young middle-distance talents, Nathan Cumberbatch took to the track in the Men’s 800m Round 1 at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, lining up against a strong international field.

Competing in Heat 3, the 21-year-old crossed the line in 1:48.97, finishing 5th. While it wasn’t enough to advance to the next round, Nathan once again demonstrated the talent and determination that have made him one of the country’s rising stars.

A 2023 CARIFTA Games 800m gold medallist and Trinidad and Tobago’s national record holder in the 1500m, Nathan continues to gain valuable experience competing against some of the Commonwealth’s best middle-distance athletes. Performances like these are important building blocks as he continues his development on the international stage.

Well done, Nathan. 🇹🇹👏🏾 We look forward to seeing what’s next. #TeamTTO #Glasgow2026 #CommonwealthGames #Athletics #TrinidadAndTobago
