This year has without a doubt been the most fulfilling of my life so far.

On the surface I celebrate attaining a dream job at Glassnote, my first Grammys, dozens of amazing concerts, trips to Yosemite, Maine, Denver, & Hawaii.

But it’s also worth celebrating everything under the surface that has lead to these moments. If I’ve learned one thing, it’s that hard work, follow through, & setting meaningful intentions can and will pay off.

I’ve been in therapy for the past 5+ years spending hours of time and energy working toward improving myself personally, my relationships with my partner, family, friends, my career, spirituality, politics, art, physical health - the list goes on. Life can be A LOT in this crazy world.

This year I’ve worked to minimize thoughts of existential dread and refocus on what’s right in front of me and within my control. Working hard when need be, but also recognizing when my body needs to rest or recover.

By setting intentions or as I like to say, planting seeds for myself, whether it be daily, weekly, monthly, or annually, I’ve learned to prioritize and move toward the things that bring me closer to the happiness & fulfillment I deserve. It’s been a blessing to see so many of these seeds in my life begin to blossom this year. And I must say that it feels quite good to finally feel in control of my young adult life. Here’s to celebrating that and for all that my 29th year has in store.

I’m also accepting donations to World Central Kitchen who are providing nourishing meals for refugees arriving at the US border, as well civilians who are affected by ongoing wars in Ukraine &
Gaza. Appreciate anything you can contribute.

So there I was, sitting on the john, halfway through making my “Fuck 2023, the worst year of my life” IG photo recap. As I scrolled through my phone photos from this year, I kept finding fun, long forgotten moments with good friends, bomb meals, and fun trips I took- and realized I couldn’t barely keep it to a handful of photos.

More than that, I realized that 2023 actually had a lot of great moments. If you’ve talked to me at all this year, you would hear me gripe about how little work there was, how little money I had, how low my mental health dipped, and how much time I felt I wasted (and I absolutely hate wasting time). What I forgot about was how many film colleagues I finally had the time to hang (and commiserate) with, how many hikes and bike trips I went on, how many of my beautiful friends got engaged and married this year, I had more time for back burner passion projects, and, most importantly, we adopted a new dog that we didn’t need, who filled a hole in our home we didn’t know we had, and who taught me more about patience, boundaries, and taking things slowly than I’d ever known.

2023 was a horrible year for myself and a lot of my loved ones. But as they say, “Life, uh, finds a way.” And life did find a way to keep serving lovely little memories amidst the bleak horizon.

So in conclusion, fuck 2023 (mostly), onwards to a better 2024.
