The Perdomo Family on Sandfly Lane — more to come of them on the beach!

As we were driving to this location (which is where it feels like you step into the paintings of Monet and impressionist dreams come true), the skies opened up and it started to rain. At this point, there was no turning back, so we danced in the rain, embraced the raindrops, and the way nature seems to sing when the rain is falling. It pushed us to go beyond our expectations and embrace the moment. Though it was not what we expected, it couldn’t have been better. KJ and Nate were so intentional with the time we shared. They read anniversary letters, embraced family time, and gave River what will probably become some of her first (and most cherished) memories.

Many reminders of why I so love what I get to do. Thank you Jesus!

Friends — KJ is an incredibly gifted photographer based in Austin, Texas! Check out her work @silentwildphotos you WILL be blessed.

Everybody’s a critic…

MiniFreak + Organelle M > Tascam Porta 02 > Zoia Cinema Everything.

Speaking of Cinema Everything—the patch I couldn’t live without: I’ve been wrongly crediting the Zoia master Christopher Jacques with it for months! As he helpfully pointed out, it’s in fact the work of @nathanperdomo.

Nathan, sir, please let me know where I can send the champagne.

5 Lessons from 5 Years of Marriage
(read till to end for book/podcast recs!)

1. Shrink the joy gap! Decrease the time spent between shared moments of joy. Sometimes joyful moments will be spontaneous, but often you need to schedule date nights, & that’s okay too! This is one of the most important thing we’ve learned! Tiny joy gaps makes forgiveness so much easier & marriage so much more fun! Building joy builds resiliency!
2. We communicate freely (in love) so we don’t start to build up resentment or bitterness which can lead to unnecessary arguments. We have emotional security & equity w/in our relationship so we should always feel able to present our needs to each other. Emotional security: I am safe to share anything that’s on my mind & I know it will be received well, & also won’t used against me later. Emotional equity: I’ve cared for Nate & his needs for so long & so well, when I go to share mine, he’ll respond in equal.
3. When one of us is speaking, we try to emotionally attune to them so they feel respected & heard. We’ve learned the importance (& brain science!) behind sharing our experiences, whether negative or positive, & having our partner mirror (or at least empathize w/) the emotions of the one sharing. Sharing helps integrate our memories & regulate our emotions. When I embrace the vulnerability of sharing, & place words to what I’m feeling, it empowers Nate to better understand & empathize w/ me.
4. Don’t go to bed angry! Initially, we believed Eph 4:26-27 meant resolving our ish before bedtime, even if it meant late nights filled w/ heated discussions. However, as we grew, we learned that it really meant releasing bitterness & choosing to forgive EVEN IF we hadn’t come together to pursue reconciliation yet. Sometimes, it’s better to postpone a convo to the morning when both of us can approach it w/ a holier & calmer perspective. When we meet, we seek to understand the other w/ empathy before being understood ourselves.
5. Have a baby asap! You’ll be amazed at how fast you have to mature together & live selflessly. Plus, babies are really cute, & making one is a blast.
