RISE Mentor Spotlight 💜

“Don’t let anyone else define what you’re capable of.”

After 10 years as an electrician, Jasmyn Smyth is using her experience on the tools to help create practical change for the women coming through behind her.

As a qualified electrician, Co-Founder of @thegocompanytas and RISE Futures mentor, Jasmyn shares what she has learned throughout her career, what she sees in the next generation of women apprentices and the advice she wishes every apprentice could hear on day one. 🛠️

Read Jasmyn’s full story on the NAEN Built to RISE blog. Link in bio.

Are you a tradeswoman who has built your career in a male-dominated trade? Are you ready to help someone else build theirs?

We’re looking for qualified tradeswomen from anywhere in Australia to join our RISE Futures Program as mentors and workshop facilitators from October 2026.

Building on the Together We RISE community, RISE Futures supports women apprentices and early-career tradeswomen through mentoring, leadership development, industry connections and skills-building opportunities.

If you:
-Are qualified in a male-dominated trade
-Enjoy sharing your knowledge and experience
-Have strengths in facilitation, mentoring, coaching or participant engagement
-Are passionate about creating pathways for women in trades

We’d love to hear from you!

By becoming involved, you’ll help shape the future of our industry and be remunerated for sharing your skills and lived experience, while supporting women to develop the confidence, skills and networks needed to succeed.

Whether you’re based in a capital city, regional community or somewhere in between, there are opportunities to contribute and connect with women in trades across Australia.

Every story shared, lesson taught and connection made can make a lasting difference. 💜

Reach out to Sammy Bowden, National Manager – Building Women’s Careers, at sammy.bowden@naen.com.au to discuss opportunities to get involved.

RISE Futures is launching this October! 🚀

Group Training Organisations have until 31 August to nominate their women apprentices for the next RISE program.

Formerly Hard Hat Huddles, RISE Futures is our newly redesigned national mentoring and development program for female apprentices.

RISE Futures connects apprentices with other women in trades from across Australia, while giving them opportunities to:

🔧 Build new skills
🤝 Connect with apprentices and experienced tradeswomen
💬 Access 1:1 mentoring
✈️ Travel to RISE events

We’re excited to bring the next group of women together and continue building a strong community across Australia’s non-traditional trades.

We asked one simple question...

"Describe the RISE Summit in one word."

These answers say it all. 💜

Skills in the Heart – NAEN 2026 @nationalaen

What an incredible few days in Yulara, NT, connecting with employers, GTOs and industry leaders from across Australia.

We were proud to have our Skills Excellence Lead, Marguerita Perilli, represent us at NAEN 2026 and contribute to important discussions about supporting trainees and building a stronger future workforce.

The event showcased the power of collaboration, community and a shared commitment to creating opportunities for the next generation.

Thank you to everyone who made the event such a success.

We love traveling with our clients and having multiple talented teams means we can literally be in 2 contrasting places the same day. Thanks for having us capture your stunning conferences AISA and NAEN and for your amazing planning and support Conlog. #conferencephotography #eventphotography #teamwork

Congratulations to Zeal Futures apprentice Rachael Pearson, who was named Apprentice of the Year at last night’s 2024 NSW Training Awards!

Hosted by South32, Rachael successfully completed her Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship at TAFE NSW, showcasing her talent and determination.

Her success highlights the vital role of Group Training Organisations (GTOs), which offer apprentices and trainees support, mentorship, and connections with host employers ensuring they thrive in their careers.

As co-captain of the Parramatta Eels, Rachael is an inspiring role model for others pursuing vocational education and training (VET) pathways.

Well done, Rachael!

I arrived 8 hours earlier at the ground to make sure I got the best seat in the house for the Matildas tonight.

Not really, but today at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne I spoke to the National Apprentice Employment Network about the importance of lifting apprenticeship completion rates.

We need more qualified, good trades people more than ever.

We'd like to congratulate two of our emerging employees on a massive achievement...

Apprentice, Phoebe Lawrie and trainee, Emma Buttigieg, have been selected to participate in the National Apprentice Employment Network's Today's Skills, Tomorrow's Leaders development program!

Phoebe is an electrical apprentice with one of our long-term clients, Stowe Australia, while Emma is undertaking her Certificate IV in Business here with us at My Gateway.

We are super proud of both ladies and cannot wait to see how they go when the program takes place later this year.

Last week I had the honour of being invited to the 2022 Today's Skills: Tomorrow's Leaders program in Canberra with the National Apprentice Employment Network. @nationalaen

It was great to connect with some of the best apprentices and trainees across Australia as we undertook workshops covering career management and leadership development. Other highlights from the week included visiting Government House, the Australian War Memorial, and the AIS Sportex.

I found the experience incredibly rewarding and I’m grateful for the friends I‘ve made, the memories we shared, and the personal growth that TSTL provided.
