The Catskills are the birthplace of American Fly-Fishing, home to some of the most famous fly-fishing rivers in the world, including the Esopus Creek. After a day on the water, it’s good to take stock, and plan your next outing.

When things get hot, our high elevation tributaries can offer trout and anglers a cool refuge.

A mix of springs, and a heavy canopy aid in keeping these systems cool and trout take shelter here when things get hot.

We love to work this smaller water with a 2-4 wt and it is a blast. There are loads of willing fish looking up for dries.

There are fish in all of our tributaries pushing 20” and finding them with a 3 wt in hand is a blast.

Swing by the shop for small stream pointers or to get geared up, if you’re out of state, shop online @caddisflyshop.

自然観察🪽

Nature exploring 🪽

As I walked through the mountains with my kids—who seem to grow up way too fast—I found myself wondering how many more times we’ll get to have days like this together.

Walking through the forest, exploring volcanic rocks, and finding glowing moss.

Feeling the cool mountain breeze.
Taking in scenery so beautiful it looked like a painting.

It was such a good day.

For those of you who are new to fly fishing, we have a variety of fly dressings that aid in keeping your fly floating.

One popular treatment, and often the first one people try out, is a gel style floatant.

This gel floatant has hydrophobic properties and coats hackle, hair, and foam keeping your dry fly floating longer.

One of our favorites in the shop is Dry Magic from @umpquafeathermerchants @shimazakiryo. It is a fantastic pretreatment, for most small dry flies.
